    Pubs & Resturants outside Belfast.

Having lived here for a few years,I have found a few good boozers.
    In Bangor,you have;
The Avant Gard opposite the Train station.Good food & range of beers. Can be a bit pricey.
The Jamaica Inn is on the way around the coast to Ballyholme, again good food inc fresh fish on the menu. Not as expensive as the Avant Gard.
Following on around the coast we have 'The Esplanade' on the sea front in Ballyholme. Both these pubs have beer gardens & the Esplanade, being opposite a good beach, will allow the adults to enjoy a pint whilst the kids go paddling. The beer gardens at the front so you can keep a eye on them.
Next we move to my home town,Donaghadee. We have 'The Moat Inn' which serves good, hearty food & has a cheery atmosphere.Kids are allowed into the resturant bar. Then we move to Grace Niells,Ulsters oldest inn.More a resturant than a bar, food is'nt bad but portions are small & expensive for what you get.
The we move down the sea front & we have 'Pier 36'.Very good bar with lots of sea food on the menu with large portions for a good price.Children are allowed into the bar.Another friendly pub.
    That's my recommendations,over to you!

Had dinner at The Plough Hillsborough tonight, oh my bloody god it was divine. I had the crab claws and salmon for starter and Monkfish for main followed by yummy strawberry roulade. Real food and more important real prices. If you get the chance to go please do!

    website

Have to concur with bootifull about the Plough, Hillsborough. A great place, and it's nice to hear it hasn't deteriorated.

The last time I was in NI was several years ago and the place was not at all peaceful, but I remember that even then my English accent didn't cause a single raised eyebrow in the Plough.

Unlike a few other places, the names of which I can't remember.
And with that he picked up the bloody old towser by the neck and, by Jesus, he near throttled him.

just re-read the previous posts. I wouldn't go intp the avant guard. It was ( and the bar still is ) called the ava. It was always OOB. I don't care if were all "peaceful" over here or not.

Last time i went to go in there was inbetween treatments at hospital. My friend was taking me out for lunch. We went in but there was no-onw about. went to go upstairs and some waitress (who coulnd't even be bothered to come down the stairs) was moaning from the top saying there were no tables and we'd have to wait at tleast half an hour. Not out of the ordinary i hear you say, but she was yelling at us as if we were the cause of all her problems. Having done waitressing myself, i can safely say i have never yelled at customers. "No thanks" i said " wouldn'twant to come in here anyway" and promptly walked out.

What is it they say about one good recommendation and one bad complaint......

Must say that I dont go over to Bangor all that often now,The is a nice spot for a meal recently opened up on Grays Hill,Jeffers by the Marina.
Steven Jeffers was the Chef/Owner of Grace Niells in the small town of Donaghadee.
Have.nt been there yet but I have sampled his food when he owned G.Niells at it was my local.

There is a fantastic Mexican in Lisburn at the Omniplex.

Being Jock I tend to hate poor service and expect to get what I pay for.

This is on my fave list of places to eat 'oor the watter'.

    Irish Doris,

Why the quotation marks around the word peaceful?

Not to be pedantic and correct you but it was actually inverted commas.

I place them there because just because you don't see things on the news in the mainland, doesn't mean there isn't still a load of shoite going on over in the emerald toilet.

The last few things I recall before I moved over the water was that a girl in a flat accross the road from mine had been 'burnt out', a chap down the road had been knee-capped and a fella had been 'chopped' to death in the middle of the road with screwdrivers and a machette ( admitedly, that last one was rumoured to have been to do with drugs, but hey)

Still, a nice place to visit

Concur with I.D here.As Gerry said,
    "They have'nt gone away,you know"
Just the 'goals' of the paramilitaries have shifted from bombing, murder ect to drugs, dodgy DVD's & fags ect.
In some estates where the PSNI are not welcome, the papramil's are also the local police force.
