    Rear Party needs you!

    Hi all,

My name is Katie and I have recently starting working with Olive Net as a Marketing and PR intern. Right now I'm focuses on the Rear Party element of Olive Net and I'd love to know what you really think about RP!

As the girlfriend of a lovely guy in the armed forces, I know how important Rear Party is as a support network . Although I don't post often, I found the RP community a huge help when my OH deployed to Afghanistan, and I think it's so important for RP to be everything it's users want it to be. It's the perfect place for newbies (like me!) to get their first insight into what it's really like on the otherside of the forces.

So, I'd love to know what you think about Rear Party. Don't hold back; tell me what you really love about RP, and what you maybe don't love as much. Is there anything you'd like to change, or anything you'd really love to see? Have you experienced and technical glitches whilst using RP- do you find it easy to use at all?! Constructive criticism is most welcome, and I'm really looking forward to hearing what you think.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

    Katie

I find it quite easy to use, although there are certain things I just cannot get the hang of.

Love the people and the healthy debate.

I'm going to sound like a stuck record here, but getting the chat room back on the front page would encourage more people in I think. It used to be that we could see if anyone was in as soon as you opened up RP but now you have to go and hunt for it.

    Hi Katie,

Now others may disagree with this, but purely as you have asked for our thoughts .......

I think the gallery needs to be weeded a little - as sometimes when I arrive at the homepage the photo showing belongs to a member who not been seen in years. At the moment it seems to flick between someone's horse in a stable, someone in a F1 pitstop, a girl enjoying a pint of Guiness and a group of cadets/recruits. My personal favourite however, is the one showing the son of a MIA member cuddling up to a completely random girl on a settee, I have to ask myself - do either of them actually know that photo is on our gallery? And the bald man in his pants on crutches - does it really need to appear on the Home Page? Don't mind the soggy moggy one though - only because it is very cute.

Out of interest, does anyone actually use the AutoRecipe? Just wondering, as the recipes are a bit odd...

I totally agree with Bodger regarding the chat room. Please put it back to the way it was.

Yes, the gallery does need weeding. Also are all mods active members?

I think we could do with a version that supports phones. I can't use my iPhone as it's a work one and my Vodafone content control is forever blocking the site.

The site is awful on my personal Blackberry. Could really do with a mobile site IMO.

Other than that - it's brilliant and has been a lifeline for the last couple of years - and soon to be again when my husband deploys.

I do occasionally, but if I'm honest I'd rather the cooking forum was for RP members to share tried and tested recipes and ideas!

RP is referred to as the warm and fluffy site in this house, can't say if I love or loathe anything about it but it passes the time for me

Hi Katie and welcome to the world of PR and marketing (do you know what you're letting yourself in for?!).

Generally I'm happy here but the gallery needs weeding for sure and chat needs sorting - I use an iPad and it doesn't work at all for me.

We've been attacked by spammers quite a lot recently too. Not sure how you can combat this, but I know a few Mods have asked for extra forums to moderate so we can keep the spam count down.

Finally, in PR mode, can you give the RAF families federation lot a nudge to start being more active on here? Then we'd have all three groups represented, which would be really helpful.

And I've used Auto Recipe a few times - I love its randomness

As a newbie to the site I found it easy to use and fairly straightforward. I agree with Bodger and Lawlady about the chatroom, I only discovered it a week or so ago. Otherwise no complaints!

I have no issues with using the site, I mainly use it by Tapatalk now, so don't often use the main page.
I am usually on my laptop more when the OH is away.
Agree with the points about chat, can't see if anyone is in there, and many a night I have sat in chat and missed people because I was doing other things and the chat has no notifications to let you know something is happening.

Also agree with WR point about the RAF Families Federation, need to get involved a bit more.

I enjoy using the site and find it most useful.

    Chat definatly needs sorting out.

Maybe an easier to use search facility - I must have answered questions about dress states and what to put in parcels 3 million and 64 times since the sight started! okay that might be a slight over estimation.

Clear out of the gallery, as already stated.

More MOD's covering the boards for spam to be deleted quicker.

The ability to 'sticky' threads again - was handy for keeping important stuff at the top of a forum.

More real life social events (happy to help organise London stuff if people are intrested).

Love the comps - ta AY
Love the ladies I have meet up with (we must do it more)

Better coffee stocked in the bar and at least a bottle of champers a week in wages (okay maybe the last two are wishfull thinking, but you have to give me credit for trying).

    Couple of points raised:

Joey, I use Tapatalk and have no problems using the forums. Going into the site in more depth does mean using 'tinterweb but if I need to do that I usually can wait to get back to my PC/notebook.

RAF FF - I can see why they are not too lively on here as there is no RAF section on Olivenet - not through any fault of the COs, just the RAF bods did not want to play. Having said that there is no reason why the RAF FF should not be active on here, but I would expect those that would like to see it to be lobbying the RAF FF to get their butts over here.

Competitions - thanks Sloosy, but they really could do with a lot more support to make them even more worth while. With the same small number of people entering, the winners are often the same people!

Leaving comments - one way that shows the site as being lively and viable is to leave comments on the Book Reviews page, this shows that people have not only clicked on the page, but are willing to join in the discussion. A review with one or more comments always generates more views overall, comments attract views.

Am I getting the right books for review on this site? That is something only you people can tell me - so please do; but remember what a sensitive soul I am and be gentle!

katie_x - welcome, you will note that using of names is not a norm on the site - mind you, I would love to know the thought process behind some of the usernames!
If I make a statement, but a women does not hear it, am I still wrong?

I'm happy to be a MOD if need be, I'm on here often enough!!

I like the new layout. but agree with the chat part of it.
Maybe we could do a monthly meet, that way people can put it in their diaries (in pencil of course!) and perhaps more people would go

Worried I am going to get a little bit flamed for this one .....

Patchpedia seems an awful lot of work to keep all the spammers at bay - are there really that many people using it?

Edited to add: have just clicked on the Patchpedia tab and it takes me to Arrsepedia is this right? Has patchpedia gone?

I agree with the above, I can't get patchpedia to play either, it tells me I need some special password ?
