It's a crazy mad world out there.
What is it these days with mothers/fathers dispatching themselves and their children?
Today we have this.
A slight variation with this.
This looks like it might be following the same sort of pattern.
And not forgetting the 3 children who it appears were killed by their mother in Scotland last week. I can't find the link for that just now though.
All of these stories have happened in the last 5 days or so.
I have absolutely no idea why anybody would do this. I know without any doubt whatsoever that I could never ever be desperate enough to kill my own children. What the hell's going on? Has the world gone completely mad? It seems that most have acrimonious breakups somewhere along the line, but when did it become an option to punish a parent by slaughtering their own children? A shrink would have a field day trying to pick the bones out of this.

 Do you think it is happening more often, or just never made it to the front pages before?
It is so very, very sad and I hope the kiddies are getting all the love and support that is humanly possible.

It must be more prevalent these days because I can't imagine it not being front page news at any time. It has to be one of the most shocking crimes known to man. It's unimaginable to your regular man on the street that a mother would kill her own children. Well, I thought it was but maybe no so much anymore. I'm confused.

I have not looked at figures recently, but from my criminology studying days the child murder rate had remained the same over many decades. I think we looked at 1950s to 80s and the number each year remained very similar. I also remember that the figures show the person most likely to cause harm to a child is a parent.
A quick look at the NCPCC website reports that the child homicide rates has remained "broadly similar from that of the 1970s" Figures i think up till 2007.
I think the way news is reported influences our perception of all crime.
As we are still shocked when we read, see or hear about them, which I guess shows this is not normal behaviour.
