Thread: First UK posting.... I'd like some information please. :)

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could give me some basic information about UK housing, please?

We've been posted to Germany, but never to the UK. So we are unsure of the out-going expenditure a UK posting will require. At the moment we are only placing our posting preferences, but I'd like more information to help us make a decision. Thank you.

Information I was wondering about is;-

*How much do quarters cost, roughly? [The areas we are looking at are Aldershot, Colchester, Catterick, Bullford and Donnington.]

*Do you get help with Council Tax or do you pay the same rates as you would if you wasn't in the Forces?

*Do you get help with fuel and lighting costs? If so, how much roughly?

I know that we get help with these things at the moment as we are over seas, but I wasn't sure if it was relevent on a smaller scale in the UK? I feel completely clueless!! LOL. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

SFA are all graded differently which determines the cost/rent, your welfare office will have this.

Do you get help with Council Tax or do you pay the same rates as you would if you wasn't in the Forces?

Council tax will be deducted from your husbands salary and will appear as CILOCT, it does differ from the full rate slightly, RAO will know this one.

Do you get help with fuel and lighting costs? If so, how much roughly?

That sometimes depends if you live within the wire in certain areas, otherwise its shop around for suppliers as normal, Uswitch.com is your friend.

When we were overseas we still paid the same CILOCT as we did in the UK so unless Germany is completely different (which I doubt) then you'll be paying the same in the UK as you were in Germany.

Moving back to the UK? think about MONEY
If you are moving back to the UK after a stint overseas, it is worth thinking ahead to the changes in your finances that this will bring about. The following points give a general guide of what to expect:
