    Thinking of moving South

    Hey all,

Me and Mr B are thinking of moving South(massive enphasis on "thinking" as quite unsure of where i'm going to be after I finish training), Plymouth is off the cards, but what is commutable to Plymouth, had look at Bristol but not really sure on anything South of where I live to be honest and having only been south a handful of times so totally lost.

Any suggestions of places I could look into around the Plymouth area?

Bristol is alright- there are a few parts I wouldn't really like to be and some bits can be pretty pricey, when you say commutable what do you mean? Bristol is about a two hour drive to Plymouth if I remember rightly? Is there anything particular you thinking as in town, suburb etc
All the cool kids have a signature but I have nothing witty or profound to say.

Tiverton, Exeter, Teignmouth all commutable to Plymouth. All depends upon what you want from life - small village, market town or city life. Loads of lovely places around Devon and Cornwall if being at the arse-end of civilisation is your thing

Commutable asin not driving 6 hours to work like Mr B does now, so maybe a 40 mile commute, we'd quite like new build, but at the moment live in a terrace, would be happy with ex council, so...no preference really. I can imagine the city life down there is farrrrr from this city life though! Thought Exeter and tiverton where miles and miles away!

    Argh head. hurts.

Use a map and draw a 40 mile circle around Plymouth - anything that falls within the circle is fair game.

Not sure whether it would fall into the circle or not but avoid Torquay like the plague. OH lived there from being 11 and it's the biggest shithole I've ever had the misfortune to visit. Makes Billingham look attractive.

Be aware of the problem of country roads down there too. If your journey to work involves anything less than a dual carriageway, double your journey time in the summer and triple it if you get stuck behind a caravan x

Will echo the thing about the roads, it will add time on to your journey. that said I commuted 25 miles by M25 and now do 25 by Cornish motorway, I prefer my commute now.
You do feel quite cut off from the world being so South. It seems small but going to concerts or holidays often will involve having to drive up country.
I do find though that being so far puts people off visiting, and me going back to see friends/family as much as I should as its a days travel just to get there.
That said I love it here, very different pace of life. I know we will have to move at some point in the next few years but plan is to come back south.
If you want any particular info on this way then just ask.
