    Anyone work for the DVLA??

Hi there all, bit of a long shot but wondering if anyone can help......

I bought an 03 plate care from a garage at the end of November, still havent received the reg documents from the DVLA, I was given part 10 by the garage although it was filled in with someone else details who obviously hadnt bothered to register themselves as the owner before they sold it on, anyway the tax is due at the end of the month so I went to the DVLA office todat and they said that because someone else had filled in the section 10 part they needed to write to the registered owner of the car to ensure that they had sold the car and then they could issue me with the registration documents only then can they tax the car, she said it could take weeks!! If the section 10 part had been left blank it wouldnt have been a problem!

I have contacted the garage where I bought it to tell them to get in touch with who they bought it off pronto and get them to ring Swansea as she said this would help but Im having a panic as we are supposed to be going away on the 7th of March in the car and of course need it for day to day purposes!!

Im so fucked off I cant begin to explain, is there anything else I can do??

    Thanks

    Boogie

We had to get a new car when we came back to the UK in September. It was November till we got the up to date registration details, the DVLA have massive backlogs apparently because of the scrapage scheme.

Aren't you allowed to drive for a certain period of time without tax so long as you've applied for it?

The DVLA said that they advise me to take the car off the road, I cant apply for tax until I have received the reg documents and they cant be issued until they get confirmation from the previous owner that the car has been sold = nightmare!

Nope the offence is not displaying a tax disc regardless of if one has been applied for/paid for.

Yeah, coniving little gits have worked it that even if it's in the post (which it can be) but not displayed, then you can get "done"> The only lee-way on tax discs is if it is literally only up to 5 days after the expiry date on your old disc AND the application was submitted prior to the expiry date. Otherwise - fork out to your local constabulary

Not that I've ever had to do that.

    Ever.

    Not even once...
