    Short hair styles

    I am taking the plunge!!!

I cancelled last nights hair appointment after making the decision to get my hair much shorter. I wanted a bit longer to think about it so it's booked for Monday afternoon.

I currently have quite long hair, I have no emotional attachment to it, I've just been too busy to do anything with it My mum and I look similar and she has long hair (sorry mum i love you but...) and it makes her look older and her face drawn so now I'm heading towards the big 30 I'm thinking it's time to start experimenting to see what works for me.

I have fine hair but quite a lot of it and probably an oval face though I'm not really sure on that. Anyone got any style suggestions. At the moment something along the lines of the 1st pic on this page Short Hairstyles for Round Faces are in my thoughts.

Haha have to confess it was your hair that made me start thinking I'd go short because it looks so nice (that and mr tree saying so are you having it all chopped off or what-he doesn't normally take an interest). Not sur my bone structure is good enough to pull off that short though....

I am a round faced girl. (used to be called 'moonface' at school)
I used to have my hair very short, and in a graduated bob for years and I always loved it like that. I would have it again, only Mr S winges about how he likes it long. Though I am very tempted to get it done when he goes next week.
I only keep it long as I an not organised enough to book hair appointments..

That's where I get confused. I don't know if I have a round face an oval face or a long face. I'm hoping I can take some ideas to yhe hairdresser and she'll know what will work.

Only trouble is last time I went to this one I had highlights but specifically said I don't want blonde. Somehow I ended up with the copper I wanted and ash blonde!

I think you've got an oval face, not round... You'd look great with a bob-style!!

Mine is a graduated bob with a long fringe. I have fine hair, but a LOT of it, so its thinned out at the back too. (must say, I didn't want a fringe but one hairdresser cut one in and it's taken blooming ages to grow out!!)

But I'm growing my hair now, Mr. K wants to see me with long hair. Personally it's a pain in the arse, I used to have long hair (down to my butt at one stage!!) but I've had it short for a number of tears now... but I can always chop it again once he's seen it lol!

I still remember growing my fringe out when I was at school. It takes forever!

Mr tree has never seen me with short hair and actually its been so long since I had it I can't remember what it looks like. I think i'll give the kelly clarkson-esque chin length bob a go. If its shite it will grow back!

I reckon mr k will prefer the short hair, you're so dainty you'll be lost with lots of hair lol

I've gone from long to bobs twice and NEITHER TIME did it look good. This was because I didn't change the front, just the length. So be ready to change the Whole Dang Thang. Moreover, how do you normlly wear it? pulled back at all? Because one of the things that threw me was not being able to collect a ponytail. I wear it like that so often that not being able to really freaked me out.

BTW I have an oval face but as I loose weight it's getting more rectangular or square cause I have a jawbone like a horse, it seems.

Oval faces are about the more diverse for hairstyles so make sure you have a stylist that listens and go crazy. Post before and afters! xx

I can't post before and afters unless its just of the back! I don't care if people know who I am but mr tree might not want the world to know what his wife whinges about lol.

I did consider the ponytail thing. I am nit a morning person so usually its hairthrown back and off on the school run but that's partly because I don't like myhair how it is now so can't be bothered doing anything else. I also think if I go for a chin length bob if I really want my hair up I should still be able to it will just be a higher ponytail.

How do you mean change the front too? At the moment I have layers (although my hairs long so they've pretty much grown out). I don't really mind a complete change of everything though cos I'm well overdue a change!

ST I spent many years wearing my hair up cos I had to for work.
I then went to Toni and Guy, saw the manager and told him to do what ever he wanted, I wanted a complete change. He wanted to cut it like Emma Watson (from Harry Potter) when it was really really short but that was a bit too radical for me!!
So we settled for a short bob. With a fringe. I haven't had a fringe since I was about 7, so it took a bit of getting used to. Now I love it, and when I can't be arsed to do anything with my hair I wear it half up (like I did yesterday) and it still looks ok. So I say go for it, but like Mrs America says go for it the whole hog and change the lot.
You'll soon get used to having to do something with your hair every day and you'll make the time. At least your hair is naturally straight, mine is curly so I have to dry and straighten it every day!!

What I meant about changing the front is, I have always had long hair with a few face-framing layers and I tried to keep those layers exactly the same, without changing the style of my hair in the front at all. And it looked RUBBISH. I should have let them style the whole thing, maybe cut a low swooping frienge or something to make the whole look come together, but I just couldn't. And it ruined the look. Twice. So don't be afraid to take a whole new style, not just a change in the length (which is what I wish I had done).

Don't worry about Ponytails too much, either- seems elastic headbands are currently vogue and if you needed to you could keep the front out of your eyes with one of those.

OMG!! have logged to start this very thread, just how weird is that?

Round faces look stunning with a bob, and if you go for a slightly choppy one it is so versatile.

My hair has been all one length and long since I was 19, as I have a very square face my hair just does not layer properly. So next week I am going to book a consultation with my local Toni and Guy salon. Blow the cost, not had my hair done for 18 months.

those styles are lovely ST - good luck with whatever you decide - I know it's a big step having a major change. Our hair is so important isn't it - one bad hair day can make you feel so bad it's unreal!

Good luck hun!! I think it will look stunning on you!

I get mine layered and always had shorter toward the front, but never a proper fringe fringe. I like it how it is now... I might have to keep it shorter in the summer... Mr K won't be here anyway

Both first and second pic are nice, I'd love to go short again had long hair I could sit on till had half cut off love to go that short but don't have the bottle to do it so doing it gradually might get there one day.

    I didn't bottle it!

My hair has gone from being just under boob length to sort of where my neck starts if that makes sense. I now have a completely different parting and one of those fringes that covers one eye, despite swearing i would never get anything like that!

I honestly thought I'd hate it to begin with and it would have to grow on me but i actually quite like it and mr tree even said it's nice and smiled (that's high praise from him he never usually comments at all!)

Took your advice Mrs America and have invested in some headbands and some invisible grip things to keep my fringe (which is driving me mad at the moment but the hairdresser swears I'll get used to it) out of my way when i'm busy.

    Woohoo! Well done!!

My fringe constantly annoyed me lol even after over 3 years!! But I don't like having no fringe... Just hated when they cut it so short, it's looking more like the sweepy fringe now

And hats off to Mr. Tree for his compliment too!
