    Burning Question

Right ladies...It would appear that thanks to what I would call a vigorous reunion last weekend that I have come back to the communist country with a bout of cystitis.
    Now my question is this
    a) do I really need to see a doctor?
    b) apart from drinking lots of water and taking paracetamol what can I do?
    c) is there any quick fire way of easing that sharp burning sensation when I need to 'go'
    d) how long is this going to last (currently on day 3!)

I'd say it's most likely bacterial and while you can fight that off yourself, it would take a while, whereas antibiotics would shift it faster...

Personally if it's not let up after 3 days, I'd make a visit to somewhere medical that would give out antibiotics.

But I'm not a doctor or in the medical profession, so take my advice for what it is, just what I'd do myself as in wait 3 days, then head for help....
Nothing to see here, move on by....

Ooh I have this ALOT. All I do is drink tons of water cos I find that the over the counter remedies don't work. Try and stay off/reduce caffeine til its gone as that helps. If it doesn't go within a week you might need to see someone.

After 3 days I'd be going to the docs. I find taking cranberry extract tablets regularly (ie when I remember) stops it coming back. Alcohol will make it worse. You have my full sympathy, it's an evil, evil thing to get.

Thanks - It's not that I don't want to go to the doctor it's just that they don't speak any english and it make everything worse! Cant see anyone till mOnday now anyway! I guess what i'm looking for are solutions to make wanting to 'go' less tear inducing!

Drink water until you can't drink any more. Then drink some more

bicarb of soda, dilute in water, it really works! cheap and if you check the otc products, they contain it, or cranberry juice- hold the vodka tho!

Ouchy and suggest putting a flannel/s in the freezer!

Without sounding patronising (but I know it will) if you are passing blood you need to get some antibiotics asap. If not passing blood then any of the above should work. Although, I would try and get some antibiotics or OTC remedies in case it happens again.

I used to get one from Tesco which was liquid in a bottle rather than the powders - it was brilliant.

PS, are you absolutely sure it is cystitis and not something else?

No blood - it's just a very severe sharp shooting pain that then stings when 'I go' and the urge to go to the bathroom all the time. Never had it before so am assuming this is what if feels like!

You need to flush it through then, but don't have anything citrus - only cranberry juice and/or water. Sort of spoils your weekend, do you have a boxset you can work your way through?

I think rehydration sachets are good for that sort of thing? I don't really have any advice, my real motive for commenting was to mention the title of the thread...very funny, made me giggle when I read it - though obviously I hope it leaves you alone very soon! x

the pain when you go and constant needing to go sounds like a Urinary Tract Infection, in which case it's a bout of anti-bodies to make it stop and it could be ages if you don't.

Always, always, ALWAYS cranberry juice if there's any problem with the lady bits. Water's good, but also, CRANBERRY JUICE. It makes hoo-hoos happy.
