    The last stone.

So the last stone is the hardest to get off they say.

Does anyone have anytips for getting over the plateau stage?

I have been 13.8 for the past 6 months and just fed up, last year I was 12.8 and It's all crept back on slowly, Is this because It was the hardest to get off, It's the easiest to put back on? Last year I was a member of a gym and was In classes all the time, this year I feel running outside is more beneficial for preping me for training. For all I'm not in classes this year think I'm running more, which means better cardio, I feel physically fitter than I did, but less toned as thats what the classes did for me last year, I felt purley more toned than anything else.

I would say my diet Is healthy, with a decent amount of each food group, I do have a cheeky few bickies now and then but tend to calorie count alot lately, so I buy biscuits with not very many calories, plus counting calories means smaller protions which I thought would help. I drink water instead of juice no fizzy pop, alcohol stricktly weekends, or only if he's home. We only have a take away once a month for a "treat".

I do circuit training twice a week with a PTI so It's In no way easy, infact I'm dying when I finish because I put 100% into It, It's pretty brutal. I also recently joined a running club, running atleast 4.5 miles, over the weekend it's 3/4 miles on a Saturday or a Sunday giving myself 2 days break a week out of the week, which i was told would be benificial to my body.

I'm just at abit of a loss atm as I feel physically fitter than I did when I was 12.8 but i seem to just not be able to drop my weight back to that.

    Any help/advice would be apreciated.

    Thanks, Blondz

I've cut out dairy, use soya milk/butter instead, cut out pork and red meat, stay clear of sweeteners (they are actually no good) and try to keep to a low sat diet. I've dropped 2 stone in 14 weeks, just by this alone x

I know its the excuse strung out by anyone struggling to lose a bit of weight but any chance it could be that you've developed more muscle, which is heavy than fat?

I'm just feel like im really fit but still "fat", I could agree on the muscle bit, but i'm not toned so don't even feel mucsley(sp) as such... Just wobble off the previous 2 stone lost lol!

Maybe ask the pti you train with to come up with a fat burning training schedule for you? It might just be that the cardio you are doing is great for improving your fitness but not ideal for burning off fat. I am far from an expert so i might just be talking shite but wouldnt hurt to ask.

If you chopped one of my legs off i'd be two stone lighter I bet, I'm pear shaped, and i just know that my arse is the last thing to shrink, boobs get tiny first then i start to lose my bum, shame it's not the other way around bum then ass, cos i love my boobs!!

Lipo would be ideal, get rid of the excess fat then maybe the fat cells wouldn't keep inflating!! They just wouldn't be there altogether!

I have had words and he lent me a heart moniter to wear while running, as my heart rate should be 70 odd or soemthing, so doing that but just seem to not drop a pounnd under 13.8!! It's so frustrating, even running with backpack on weekends but nothing, if i could just get 3 pound off i think it dropped off last time, but like i say i was so toned then through bums and tums ect....Gahh

    Give your body a shock....

Change what you eat, it's easy to eat the same foods each day and it's almost like your body goes on "auto pilot" with you ... this happened to me, when I was losing weight, so I did 2 things for a while to change where the energy come from.

If you are getting lots from carbs, then reduce that and add more protein, or lots from protein, then reduce that and add more carbs, basically give your body some different fuels to work with.

That and drinking 8 glasses of water on top of the other drinks I had a day (I was told water is needed to metabolise fat).

If you've tried that, then the other thing I tried at the same time (and it worked for me) was think of the calories as a weeks worth, so if, for example, you are eating 1500 a day then you never have the same amount of calories the same day - like this:

Day 1 - 1500 (base amount) Day 2 - 1700 (200 over) Day 3 - 900 (600 under) Day 4 - 1900 (400 over) Day 5 - 1200 (300 under), Day 6 - 1500 (base amount), Day 7 - 1800 (300 over).. you make the 900 the day you don't exercise and bulk it up with lots of veg... I did this for 2 weeks to kick start my metabolism and it worked for me, and I then went back to eating "normally"

It may not work, it seemed to for me, but everyone's different...

I never realised eating under the calories you needed could boost it to be honest!! I was to busy thinkin better eat what I need, will definatly give it a go, thanks feisty! I eat loads of hot stuff to, always seasoning with chilli and stuff to give things a kick, doesn't that speed up your metabolic rate?

It always seems when I've finished doing excersize I feel empty, if that makes sence, like i've ran out everything that I had, by the time I'm finished running on tuesday and thursdays, I'm starving, that never used to happen when I used to run shorter distance ect, could that effect it, I did think that once you'v burnt off what you'v eaten you burn off what you have stored but obv not :/

I tend to drink a pint of juice (no added sugar ones, I can't bring myself to drink water alone unless it's almost ice or I'm actually running) when I come back from my runs while I cool down because often I feel hungry when I actually need a drink, then I sort out my breakfast (I run before breakfast) and by the time I've eaten, I no longer feel starving and I get no hungrier than on non running days in the run up to lunch.

I was also told to make 1 "run" a week interval training, so something like 4 mins above normal comfortable running pace, 4 mins slow jog to recover, rinse and repeat, because it's good for increasing run speed, cardio fitness and fat burning.

Because, and I quote from a web page I've just looked up "This method of training may be more effective at inducing fat loss than simply training at a moderate intensity level for the same duration. This is due the metabolism boosting effects of high intensity intervals" basically your body isn't sure what's coming next so that it keeps going for the main energy storage - fat.

I have to admit, I rarely do interval training on my runs now, because at the moment, I get it twice a week in PT sessions...

    *edit*

The water directly after the run was because I was told, that you feel hungry as your body has used all the stored energy and needs it either from
    a) food you eat immediately
    or
    b) from stored fat - the stored fat however, needs water to be metabolised - hence drink the water and cool down before eating gives your body a chance to take some of the stored energy from your reserves...

Whether it's true or not I don't know as I'm repeating what I was told, not something I've learnt...

I have been exactly the same.
Then my sister went to the doctors because of her weight problem (as well as some weird rash that came up!) and he told her to follow a low carb diet. (not no carb like atkins)
Your body uses carbs for the energy you need for the day, and any extra stores it for fat.
But her body by passes that, and just stores it as fat straight away, hence the low carb diet to follow. She been at it 4 weeks and lost just over a stone.
I've probably got the same - just waiting for test results.

A good one to follow is the idiot proof diet (or pig2twig), google it. I've just got the book and I'm going to follow it. Its a complete new way of eating for life, and gradually introduces good carbs back into your diet. Now that I've read the book I'm going to start it on Monday!

Whenever you feel hungry have a drink of water, if you're still hungry after that then you're actually hungry is what I've been told. There is a chance you've increased your muscles which as mentioned are heavier but there are numerous reasons, possibly the fact that you're 'stressing' over your lack of weight loss can actually affect your weight loss, as in you won't lose (I'm good at this one, I can fluctuate weekly to whether I lose or gain and my goodness its frustrating).
I wish I had more willpower and didn't comfort eat but hey can't win them all.

I'm the same tatts, although seem to have got the better of the first 12lbs I wanted to lose as I've had a bloody awful couple of weeks food wise and not gained anything.

Blondiie am in the same boat, aiming to lose about a stone but I know it's mainly fat I have to deal with rather than toning - but honestly chick I wouldn't stress about it too much, once you start your training any toning/weight loss you haven't managed will soon be sorted out thanks to the darling PTI's!
Heaven wont have me, hell is scared I'll take over. Time for the pub!

On the move this weekend. Not sure yet where I'm going or when I'll get there.....hope theres enough vodka in the car.

After I lost a fair bit of weight I was sick of aerobic type exercises so switched to pilates, it's great for toning up so you may not lose much weight but it might trim you up a little bit. It's awful feeling you're working your but off & it's not getting any little-r. I got a groupon voucher for starter classes & still go now. It's great for toning arms and especially waist

Saying that though, the boy wasn't in training then so I didn't have access to proper fitness advice, so that could also be a good (&cheaper) route!

Good luck tho! Don't let the plateau get you down...you get past it eventually.
