    Hair dye SOS

    Hi all,

I've had my hair dyed today by a trusted family friend a permanent dark brown... although the colour has turned out fine... I am left with a very dark brown forehead and ears that have convieniently been dyed too. I have tried mouthwash, body lotion, washing my hair and head three times and it is still very dark and embarassing. Does anyone have any tips on how to at least fade it?? or I think I will be housebound if all else fails... :-S

Baby wipes. Dont know how old the hair dye is bit if its other hair thats been dyed then youll need to shave it.

    How hairy are your ears?

lol, I've not got hairy ears (at least I don't think I have) have been trying with the nail varnish remover and it does seem to have faded it a bit, gonna have a go with the baby wipes and if all else fails I'll brave the windolene :-)

Yup - as ^ Boots said - fag ash, water and cotton wool. If it doesn't come off with that, it's not coming off!

For future reference, rub the stained areas with leftover hairdye on a dark cloth after the development time then rinse IMMEDIATELY! The colour will lift straight off!

A few people have said that fag ash really does work - unfortunately it doesn't sound so appealing as I hate the smell of fags... am going to see if it's better in the morning, it has faded with the varnish remover a little... but if it's not faded by midday tommorow (when I have an appointment at 1 lol!!) I will be raiding my mothers ash tray I think as a last resort :-)

another trick is to put baby oil on the stains, leave overnight then use a muslin cloth/face cloth to rub gently with facial soap...that should shift it!

Well woke up this morning and it has really faded! woo! probably means I have a lovely amount of hair dye in my bloodstream but at least it saves me from the fag ash! I'm going to be so much more careful next time! thanks for all your suggestions! it did help the process of fading speed right up xx

A helpful tip for next time is to put vaseline on your ears are around the skin on your hairline where you get die. (I used to do my big sisters hair for years before she met a rich man to pay for her to go to a salon) Make sure you wash it all off though or you end up with little spots! It helps to stop the die staining the skin though and that combined with nail polish remover always worked.

I use Nail Varnish remover too - I put it on with cotton buds and rub until it's gone, it's hard to get off completely but it definitely helps

like dizzy says, vaseline around the hairline before you do it, comes off really easily then with a baby wipe or something!
