    Slim fast

Has anyone ever done the slim fast diet? Does it only work as a short term diet or can it be continued long term?

I haven't, but I remember my mum doing it a few years ago. Much like anything if you stick to it long term you see results long term.

Mum couldn't live on shakes, and bars so like many others put the weight back on, and some more to boot. I truly believe there is no substitute for a healthy diet and regular weight bearing exercise.

    Re: Slim fast

I use Slimfast to kick start my metabolism, I did a slimfast for breakfast / special k for lunch and dinner before I went on holiday and saw a steady 2 pound a week weight loss. Usually gave myself an evening off a week for good behaviour. It was managable.
Not quite a newby but not quite there yet either, just settling in to my first patch in Germany.

    Re: Slim fast

I did the slimfast thing about 3 -4 months ago when I decided to give up smoking, I didn't want to put 3 stone on due to snacking which I have done in the past. I had a shake for breakfast (something I have continued to do, as I don't usually do breakfast at all), a slimfast snack or two mid morning another shake for lunch and a couple of weight watchers yoghurt's mid afternoon and the usual meal in the evening and the occasional snack.

To be honest it was plenty of food and the snacks did stop me from snacking and I still use the snacks and shakes but to be honest I haven't noticed any significant weight loss, but that could be due to the fact that I now snack on other stuff as well. But I haven't smoked in over 3 months, and I didn't put three stone on so all good in my eyes!

Ive never done slim fast but have had clients who have in the past and it worked for them.

One of the best ones for constant keeping on top of your weight is weight watchers u calculate ur points and then eat what you within reason to stay within ur points allowance

    Works for me!

    Re: Slim fast

I've tried them all. The only pounds I lost with weight watchers etc was of the monetary kind really. My problem is that they are too much for me to eat. I can't eat if I don't feel hungry, this week is the prime example. Monday - slimfast shake in the morning and moussaka with salad for dinner, Tuesday - slimfast shake in the morning and salad with a piece of fish for dinner, Wednesday I had a slimfast shake in the morning and chicken salad for dinner. Yesterday, the painkillers made me feel like crap so I didn't eat anything at all. Today, all I've had is a piece of wholemeal toast and a banana, and that was only to stop my stomach from annoying me with the racket!

I'm more than happy living on the likes of salad with either fish or chicken, I enjoy it and it doesn't take that much effort. The problem I have is making myself eat. I lost 5 stone on the "leaving husband and getting divorced" diet, but have put nearly 2 stone back on since my accident. I know I'll soon shift that once I'm fully fit but it doesn't help now.

    Re: Slim fast

I've never done slim-fast so can't help with that one.

I was asked to leave my local weight watchers

But lost weight with Slimming World. I'm a bit like Wench and can only eat when I feel like it, but with Slimming World my appetite improved and I ate really well and lost 2 stone and kept it off with little or no effort (as in I maintained the Slimming World principals easily) for about 3 yrs.

I did put some weight back on when going through 'My Ex is a big fat alcoholic' phase, then I lost 13 stone in one day (the Ex) and the weight has gradually dropped off, don't know how.

It depends on why you're carrying weight! If you've been on a massive all-inclusive holiday or been laid up and have fattened up but are usually a healthy eater, then as a quick fix it can work provided you go straight back to eating healthily after you lose the poundage!

If however, like me, you have an unhealthy relationship with food ( I tend to use it as a comfort blanket when stressed) then I personally don't think it is effective! It doesn't address the reasons you gained lard in the first place.

    Does that make sense?

I have to confess to being a weight watcher! I'll tell you for why....I can eat anything I want, as long as I have the points for it. If I want chocolate, I have it. BUT and here's the biggy (scuse pun)....fruit and veg is FREE and foods with low fat, high fibre content are low in points, so to my mind, it 'encourages' me to eat healthy food because I love the idea of 'freebies' and by choosing a banana over a Freddo, I can have more vodka at the weekend!

I did slim fast years ago. I was a size 22 and it was 6 weeks before the June Ball and I didn't have ball gown, and couldn't find one to fit. I went out and came home with a pile of taffata, and a wedding dress pattern that only went up to a size 18. Desperate needs brings on desperate means.. so I did the Slim Fast thing, cos it seemed a quick fix.. and it was. I finished the gown, and not only got into it 6 weeks later, I had room to spare. Problem was, as soon as I stopped, all the weight went back on...

In fairness the only way I've found that I can lose weight and keep it off for longer is with either Weight Watchers or Slimming World.

Y'know that spam actually does make some sense though.....does spam fit in to a 'perfect diet' though?
Heaven wont have me, hell is scared I'll take over. Time for the pub!

On the move this weekend. Not sure yet where I'm going or when I'll get there.....hope theres enough vodka in the car.

In June I'm going to turn into a weepy, smelly, moody, sleepy mess as I undertake a very long liver shrinkage diet.

Slim fast is one option, but I'm opting for the 900 calories a day food diet.

    Shoot me......now.

I think I'd rather have 900 calories of solids than 1500 calories of liquids.

    Best of luck Beebs.
