    Posted to Hohne.... ekk!

    Hello!

We've just received our posting order for Hohne and after initial excitement, reality is setting in and I'm so scared!! My main worry is accommodation, we currently have a lovely rented house in glorious lincolnshire countryside and I'm worried about feeling claustrophobic on camp! Does anyone have any pictures of the SFA at Hohne so I know what I will be arriving to? I understand there is a good chance we will get a house (as opposed to a flat), is this true? No idea what to do about schools either, I guess it will be Montgomery? Guess I'm just looking for some reassurance, really nervous about this move..... xxxx

    Jules,

I live in Celle at the moment so can't really help with the qtr's on Hohne camp - have you tried contacting the Hive there? I know they are really helpful.

The majority of the flats in Hohne are off camp and are in the local village of Bergen, the vast majority are flats. But please don't expect a UK sized flat; the flats are totally massive. I know they have built some houses but I don't know who is moving into them and were they are located. As has been suggested get Hubby to pop into the local HIVE and ask them to send over an Information Pack.

    Hope this helps,

    Sluice xx

hi, we lived in hohne for 5 yrs and after 18 yrs as a army wife it`s been my favourite posting. the flats are lovely and i found them to be a much higher standard than qtrs in the uk. my son went to monty school and enjoyed it but i would avoid the secondary school there at all costs.
hohne was one of the friendliest places i`ve ever been and i`d go back tomorrow..... enjoy your posting.

btw we lived on beethoven strasse.

Hiya, I'm moving out to Hohne in October with my 4 month old son, my husband is already there. I'm really scared as I've read alot of stuff regarding army life and army wives and to be honest not very good feedback Wives are supposidly reallly bitchy, everyone supposidly shares husbands and so on so on

I'm just looking to meet new folk, for my wee boy to be happy and to make as happy a life as we can, please please please someone tell me its not all bad, I understand you get two faced people and shit stirrers everywhere but oh my god it can't possibly be that bad....... Is it?

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated, love Claire

Never lvied in germany but have been doing the army wife bit for a while now.
I'm not going to lie and say theres no bitching. You put a group of women all together many who are stuck home looking after the kids all day and gossip and bitching is gonig to happen it would anywhere not just army circles. But even if you are at the centre of the days bitching (because believe me the next day it WILL be someone elses turn) if you ever have a problem us wives 9 times out 10 rally round and offer a support both practical and emotional thats second to none!
A week after i moved into my last quarter hubster went away for a week and son thing decided to play up beyond belief. A neighbour i barely knew found me sobbing on my doorstep having sat outside and locked my son in the house cos i couldnt have him around me. She went and got another couple of neighbours one of whom brought her kid round as wel. The 2 boys disappeared upstairs and the girls stayed with me and made me feel human and capable again. 6 months later me and the same neighbour were having a screaming row on our doorsteps cos the kids were attacking each other! 6 month later again and we're getting drunk at families day together.
Anyway my point is that it passes. My best advice is to let it bounce off you when the bitching does occur Play the game and try and move between all the cliques rather than getting stuck into just one makes for a much more varied life while you're there
    Good luck with your move

    No, it's not 'that bad'.

Firstly, in my long experience of life as an Army wife I have never heard of, nor met, anyone who has 'shared' their husband. Most of us are decent, ordinary women who love our husbands and strive to maintain happy marriages.

On the subject of bitching... YOU set the tone for your life and your family. You can sit around drinking coffee, slagging off your neighbours, or you can develop relationships with nice people. Every patch I have lived on has had cliques of women with too much time on their hands but more individuals who led normal lives and had normal friends. Most turn the compexity of a foreign posting into a positive by using the time to study, learn new skills or work in the local community.

I hope I don't sound grumpy when I say that I get a bit bored with the stereotypes aimed at Army wives. We are as diverse as the civilian population. Some of us have high powered careers, some are home-makers. Some are faithless, most not, and some have as little to do with the Army and other Army wives as they can manage. It is our individual choice and how you get on in Hohne will be yours.

Thank you for replying! It's nice to hear positive feed back. I suppose I'm pretty scared to be moving into the unknown, it seems to be easy for the men as they have got the foundadtions in place with the other men. I'm pretty 'normal' like to meet new people and have fun, but my family are my main priority. I'm sorry if I said anything offensive, it's difficult to look forward to something when you hear negitive stuff. Thank you though its nice to know that there are 'normal' families doing 'normal' stuff.

Oh god im sorry if ive worded that wrong.... Im pretty nervous about the unknown, I do fully understand what your saying and appreciate your reply.

I am looking forward to the move trying to be as positive as I can but be as realistic as possible. Yeah your right you get 'bitching' everywhere. Im pretty good at meeting new people so hears hoping we settle as a family quite quickly!

    Thank again

schools and nursery i think are on camp...regular bus drives to and from camp into Bergen
in Bergen you have edeka (supermarket) aldi , lidl and kaufland ( 'nother supermrket)
in town there's family (kiddies clothe shop) and icecream parlours and so on
you also have Celle which is 30 minutes away by car/bus
if you wanted to walk to camp it probably take you about 30min -45 minutes , depending if kids are walking or you push them

just to add i'm jealous you have that posting , been trying for years to get back there....go in with open eyes and you'll enjoy it

ooo and rossman is the place to go for your toiletries and nappies and so on
of course you can buy what you know in the naafi

    try hohne camp germany
winters can be harsh but then germans cope with it, and you have better heating in germany then in quarters over here
there is plenty to do for your and with your kids, especially i you can drive.
there's elfenland in celle for a start, plenty of indoor and outdoor pools.

Hohne will be a fab posting for you if you drive. There are lots of things to do for the kids. Get yourself into the Hive when you get there.
