Translation help please? Free papers driving me mad :D

Hi there, I know some of you ladies are, or speak German so I wonder if anybody could help me with a translation please.

My trouble is this, we have a small red letterbox at the front of our house, which on a daily basis is stuffed with papers, flyers, newsletters, supermarket advertisement bumf, blah blah crap crap crap.

Anyway, I would like to put a sign up in very specific terms to say that I do not want anything other than our post /mail to go into the box. I would like the wording polite but firm, and in German.

I would do a Google translate, but i'm never sure that it comes out quite right.

If any of you lovelies have suggestions or translations that would be super.

    Ta very muchly

    Yes, she is indeed.

If you put up a sign with these words:

'Bitte weder unadressierte Postsendungen, Werbung, Wurfsendungen, Handzettel noch kostenlose Zeitschriften einwerfen !
    Danke.'

Nothing but your mail should find the way into your letterbox from then on.
It is polite and this is literally everything except your mail.
In case you'd still like to get free magazines e.g., just drop 'kostenlose Zeitschriften'.

    Hope this helps.

The norm (in the SW at least) is: "Bitte keine Werbung". Might be a bit easier to squeeze on the box.

If only that were true Schuh. We have "Bitte keine Werbung" on our letterbox yet we still get them. I have even spoken with the people placing the 'spam' into our letterbox and they claim to have been told to ignore such notices. Mostly it is done by volunteers who are paid according to the numbers delivered.

My solution to junk mail is to swap it all around into post paid envelopes and send it all back...just not to the right company!! so the 'amazing deals on blinds' lot get the 'cheap MOT's done by crooks' leaflets etc!!
Its quite good fun picking apt junk to send to firms!! Try sending the Dominos pizza flyers to the 'pay £300 a week to have calorie counted meals on wheels for fat birds delivered to your door' crew!! He he

We watched a video on youtube about a guy who would get all the prepaid envelopes and sellotape them on a box which contained a brick, or similarly heavy and inexpensive item, then post it back to the company.

As they have to pay the postage on it it would cost them a fortune

However the sign has worked. I just got home, there are newspapers in every postbox but mine! I wish it worked on bills!

    Glad to hear it worked.

You can always try to add 'und Rechnungen', but I'm afraid bills will still find their way to you.

    Bitte keine Werbung sounds right.

However, I'm not sure it's gonna help... I'm not entirely certain what the rules are in Germany, but post-office employees, I'd bet in any country, don't get to decide what mail they do or don't deliver. It isn't the post guy's fault I'm afraid, it's the company that sends the junk. The guy could probably get in trouble if he doesn't deliver the mail, since keeping it or tossing it away is probably grounds for job termination if not judicial trouble.

Just sayin'... might not be worth the sign! Messing with the companies, on the other hand... well, it's probably equally useless in terms of stopping junk mail, but at least it's a lot more satisfying!
