    Shopping / Delivery companies etc

I am aware that lots of people do a fair amout of shopping in BFG via the internet, myslef included! Just thought it could be a useful addition to this forum if people could post links to sites they have tried and tested and offer comments as to the service provided and the speed of delivery etc.

I have used www.amazon.co.uk both in the UK, Germany and Iraq and found them a reasonable company to deal with.

www.sindelights.com - this company is run by a forces wife (I belive) so understands the BFPO sytem etc, delivery very efficient and no markings on the package to give away the content.

Have just ordered some outdoor gear so will post about them once I have recived the goods!!

Anyone else with sites etc add them

    Thanks

    Sluicey xx

If want to say thanks, let someone know that you're thinking of them etc,
www.doughdough.com is always a good one. Quick service and they are fine with BFPO numbers!!

Just had a look at the doughdough site and I know I will use it, thank you

Also had a look at the sindelights site and I'm still blushing. 8O Sluice_Dweller what did you buy from there? (asked with a 'do I really want to know?' tone of voice) ops:

    Hi all

If you get your goods (other than books) from AMAZON delivered to your bfpo address you can claim the vat back.
Just send an email to customer services with the order number and they credit your card. Its 17.5% and they back date your previous orders.

    Re: Shopping!

Calcuta, you don't want to know what I bought, but it doesn't need batteries!!

Honey, thanks for that - will remember that for future purchases.

I know Cotswold used to do something similar but haven't used them in a while so would have to look into that one. If anyone else knows of companies that do VAT back let us know.

    Re: Shopping!

Just a quick update about the site I orderd the outdoor gear from - ordered the stuff Saturday afternoon, had an e-mail everyday updating me with the orders progress and the goods turned up yesterday - which to me seems a very good service, so I think I will be using them again!

    So the link is www.mountainwearhouse.com

Just found this link - looks like you can purchase almost anything and get it sent out to BFPO addresses or vice versa!

Have been to Mc Arthurglen in Roermond - its very good with lots of shops, only advice I would give is avoid the place at the weekend if you can - its horrible, full of rude people with no manners who just barge past you with out saying a word! Otherwise its definatly worth a visit!

    Re: Shopping!

Well as some of you maybe aware I have a bit of an internet shopping problem - well okay it's not a problem it's an addiction! Well my latest attempt to purchase goods has been a nightmare from start to finish - I wanted a new tent to sling in the back of the car so I could go exploring and stuff on my day's off. Easy you may think, hmm well so did I. Me being me heads for the tinterweb and my favourite friend google and types in tents and up comes this site selling Vango tents cheap - great thinks I - just what I need. So I spoke to a mate who was also looking for a tent to go to a festival next weekend, so they pick theirs out and order is submitted! Next I get an e-mail saying that it could take up to three weeks for delivery as they have to come form Vango direct (okay thinks I, I don't need mine for a while and the festival isn't for a few weeks after that), so not a problem. Then I get another e-mail saying one of the tents has been posted, wait a week or so - no sign of the tent. Go away on leave and come back and I have a parcel, however I can't get to it cause it's locked away in the post room (and I'm going away on a course and the mate who's ordered as well is champing at the bit cause he wants his tent to go away on leave) so i leave a note with a colleague asking the post room to let them collect it on my behalf and arrange for my mate to pick it up! Well blow me its my tent thats pitched up and not the one that I have been notified off. And the company are now claiming that its been sent and are claiming its been sent! So I know have the fun and games of trying to chase the bloody thing up through the military postal system! Anyway the long and the short of the story is avoid

    www.gearzone.co.uk

like the plague - their admin is terrible and their customer services is none existent.

    Re: Shopping!

    Hi,

We were posted in Germany for four years until last November. A little tip I picked up is to use the Mill Hill postcode and put the BFPO number in the main address. For instance, I used to order through Boots for all my baby bits and if you use BFPO postcodes they charge you £6.50 for postage whereas for orders over £45 using postcode NW7 1PX delivery is free! Lots of other companies online didn't seem to recognise BFPO postcodes but using the Mill Hill one worked a treat.

    Re: Shopping!

For books I sometimes use a German site: Buch7 - it's often cheaper than Amazon, and it donates 50% of its profits to charity. If you buy more than €20 of books they don't charge you postage either.

Try www.ForcesDirect.org. They have a good selection of gifts too. I've just ordered the "Lads' Night In" gift box for my boyfriend who's in Afghanistan at the moment.

    Re: Shopping!

Few more to add to the list: -

www.boots.co.uk - they do charge £6.50 delivery, but if like me you bulk buy and get lots of 3 for 2 or BOGOF offers then it doesn't seem so bad - have probably just bough about three months worth of toiletries and I don't have to carry them home from the shop!

www.mandmdirect.co.uk - sell sports gear - delivery is £3.50 to UK and BFPO but free on orders over £100 - easy to do if you need new running shoes!
