    Lawyers!

I know this is a long shot but I am pretty nervous and could use some extra advice.

Mr D and I have taken the plunge and are buying a house. We have sorted out a mortgage (fingers crossed) the offer has been accepted and now its just a matter of finding the lawyers to sort the whole thing out.

    1. I am a bit nervous about quotes and calling people and I am not really sure who to use so if anyone knows a good lawyer in the camberley/aldershot area. . . .

    2. I have been told I should get a will for myself, do I need to do this through a lawyer or use one of those "kits" in Smiths?

    3. I have been advised to leave 100% to Mr D but currently he leaves me 50% should we change his will too?

this is all hurting my head and what with him being away at work and me trying to work as well its a bit annoying. I just want to start painting our new house!

Generally, the Estate Agent should have a list of decent Conveyancers in the area, but a personal ref from a friend who's used one in particular is always better. Do shop around though!

Wills should be <£100 for a single person and <£180 for a couple. MoD free ones are good if you have few assets. I'd advise against using the kits. What you leave and who to is entirely up to you, but don't forget you can change it at any time you like without having to completely write another one.

Wills & Conveyancing aren't really my speciality, I'm a Crime girl, but if you need anything, just give me a shout Diz

A personal referral is most valuable than one from an estate agent, have experienced both and very much advise one you can actually visit rather than just deal with over the phone.

Pip the dog wonder is in that area, he might know a good solicitor

In your area I would recommend Wright & Wright Solicitors in Guildford. They are used to doing distance conveyancing if necessary.

    Wright and Wright Solicitors

Julian Sampson is the man I used to deal with when I worked at a mortgage brokers (will PM you). You may well be able to get a free will out of him for each of you too.

Hi, we are in the process of moving and as the hubby is somewhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean it's all down to me!
I opted for the Solicitors that the Estate Agent we are selling through recommended. The main reason for this was becuase they act as a bit of a middle man for sending stuff, questions, accepting signatures (as they have to be verified and they will do it rather than have to trek to the solicitors) and as a convenient meeting place. So for me this was worth it's weight in gold! Just a thought as if you are like me working, children & managing the whole house process then the easy option maybe the best one.
The Will stuff, I leave to my OH. I think it's best if you can leave it all to eachother but then that's a personal decision... and like someone said, that can be changed at any time.

Thanks for all the help guys! I just sent the quotes of to Mr D to look over. Our financial advisor wasn't too keen on the Estate Agent recomended solicitor so I think we will go for one of the others. Besides they aren't local to either of us.

Work is pretty understanding (I am the youngest by a fair bit so they all mother me and try and help sort my life out!) I am very lucky.
As for the will he will be getting all of what I have, we will talk about his but I think he will just leave it for a while, a lawyer friend of mine told him it will be invalid if we got married anyway so guess what his new idea is. . . . .

Lol DC, you can add a codicil at a later date that the will remains valid after marriage (I have done this). If you need anything else let me know. This is my area, and I am missing it (can you tell?)
