As some of you may (or may not know) we are moving back to the UK after 3 looooooooong years HIP HIP HOORAYYYYYYY!

Anyway, I am fully aware of the jobs market being a bit.....well..... shit! So I have applied to be an AVON rep!

Has anyone done this and if so what were your experiences?

I've seriously considered doing it, but not sure how it would go down on an officers patch as they all seem to want to do pampered chef etc!

I seriously considered doing this about six months ago, but decided it was not for me.

Have you had a look at some of the other companies out there as I am hearing fantastic things from people who are party planners for Jamie at Home and Arbonne. Quite frankly they earn a lot of money - and they have next to nil childcare costs so its a win-win in my book. All of these people are mums at school and not only do they do things in the evening but they do daytime bookings as well as having stalls at these Ladies Pamper Nights that are popping up all over the place.

Best of luck with the move - although I can't remember where you are being posted to off the top of my head.

I have a friend who does Jaime at home products, and I did think about that evening/ party type of work (If I'm honest I was thinking more along the lines of Anne Summers ), but I want Darcey to go to Nursery anyway, as she loves being sociable, and I think it'll be good for her. So I may as well make use of that 16 hours.

I know and have used AVON for years, my father in Law works for them, and I'm more of a 'Beauty products' person than a 'kitchen' person. Maybe if Mr Schuh get's to be an officer I'll switch (but hopefully I'll be a personal trainer by that time).

I just really wanted to know how much I can realistically be expected to earn with 16 hours in the week and one or two evenings.

Some rp'er on FB have put me in contact with some of their rep friends so hopefully they 'll be able to help.

And we're off to Nottingham Toots. Cannot WAIT.

    Red face

Have not been to Nottingham since about 1995 but I really liked it - we were on the way to Matlock area for a weekend.

Anyhow, back on track, Avon is great but its very sociable but what put me off is that so many other people do it - whereas Arbonne had a completely different approach, they give you these fantastic brochures and loads of sample to distribute to people and their training and consultant support is amazing. Whereas the only training my Avon Sales Leader was able to offer me amounted to a few voicemails, a couple of sopping wet catalogues outside my front door and a sarcastic response to my call asking "WTF?". Was not impressed.

Edited to add: Ann Summers, well yes its extremely social and you would make money, but who does it work when their website or shops have a sale on? Do you then have to reduce your prices? Is there a way of your customers purchasing from the website but adding your consultants code and you still get commission. If there is, send me your code ffs

Depending on who it's aimed at (I'm thinking age and rank here) I get pushed through the letter box Avon, virgin, oriflame, arbonne, betterware catalogues. Seems to be a real push on "homemade" name plates and pottery parties at the mo.

I would wait until you get settled in SFA and see what's available already before you commit to owt!

i wouldn't class Avon as a main income, you may only get £40 - £100 per order, which doesn't add up to much on a monthly basis, if you only get orders in once a month.

Forgive me for diverting from your original question Schuh but you aren't any good with dogs are you? because if you're on a patch you have a captive audience for dog-sitting/walking.
I hired a dog sitter two years ago when we moved here. Her only qualification is a real affinity with dogs and she was a bugger to track down as there is a real dearth of dog-sitters around here. My two obviously took to her immediately and she to them, so she was hired. As neighbours moved in, I was asked for recommendations and she now looks after my two, and two others on the patch. I pay her £15.00 a day to drop in at 12.00 (she looks after an ancient Lab from 11-12 which as far as I can gather involves cuddling her and letting her out for a pee, which is pretty much what she does with mine) and entertain them until 13.00, when she moves on to the next house. She makes about £900 a month for three hours work a day (if you can call messing about with nice dogs work!). She very sensibly doesn't take on dogs (or owners) she doesn't like, and she has a long waiting list because dog-owning, working couples (of which there are loads on patches) need her!
Every time I think about it, I think 'why the hell am I slogging away full time in Publishing, when I could be making decent money pratting about with dogs?'.

The more I hear about Avon the less I want to do it. I emailed a couple of peeps on FB and the one who has got back to me has told me she didn't earn much either (she did add that she didn't put in that much effort though).
Heli I absolutely adore dogs, and that would be ideal for me, but I have a 10 month old and she will only be in Nursery for about 4 hours a day, and the Nursery on camp is 9-1. I wanted something that would fit in with that.
Boots the reason I wanted to start straight away is because my mat pay has stopped and we're also going to be losing about 500 quid a month LOA, so I kind of have to work straight away, and knowing the job market is a bit poop, I thought this would be something i could start ASAP. Plus I reckoned it would help me get to know people in my area. In hindsight I don't know whether shoving brochures through doors is the best Ice breaker!!

So to divert the topic somewhat, does anybody know of something that I can start straight away earn a relatively decent amount and still keep within my daughters nursery hours?

    Answers on a postcard.

I did AVON for 8 months and in the summer I really enjoyed it. Walking the streets in the winter and having sopping wet books to deal with in the winter wasn't much fun. I didn't have the greatest patch and was only making around £25-£50 every 3-4 weeks. So if you are looking for a money maker then I wouldn't recommend it. However, on the flipside, it is very sociable and you get to meet a lot of new people.

My landlady does Arbonne and she really enjoys it and makes a lot more money than I used to.

TBH, unless you get a job asap from moving over, you'll have to live off JSA, unless you can live without that funding.

Best bet is to sign up with job agencies online and then contact the local agency offices and get an induction interview etc within the first few weeks of moving. As they say, the best time to look for a job, is when you're in one

Are you qualified enough to do any type of Fitness Instructor type jobs? The reason I ask is that one near me does Buggy Walks which are basically mums with buggies walking and then doing some low impact exercises. She makes a fortune and I bet in a garrison it would quite a good way to meet mums, make money and fit around your little one.
