What am I entitled to claim back, etc?

I am just about to rent out my property to join Mr B on his overseas posting and vaguely remember a whisper that I can claim back some of the costs incurred with renting out my home, etc...

I also vaguely recall something about being able to claim NI credits to keep my stamp up-to-date...

Does anyone know anything about either of these & anything else I may be able to claim, as it feels like I stand to lose so much at the moment, temporarily giving up a good income, my home, etc!!

Are you renting out your house fully furnished?

No, putting most of it in storage...Why? Does it make a difference? x

Yes its possible. Are you planning on doing your tax return yourself? Have you been to an accountant yet to discuss options if you are looking to minimise tax? (as I assume thats what you mean by claim)

Heven't been to the accountant yet, but wondered if you could claim any "expenses" back from the army with an overseas posting?

If you can I've been missing out! I know there are certain things paid towards if you sell a house to buy another one at your next posting, not sure about letting it out though. Something to do with financial gain and all that. What sort of expenses are you looking to get compensated for though?

Same here! I have been renting my house out since I married hubby and moved to Germany. I don't think there is anything you can claim back from the army. Most things are tax deductable though (insurance/wear and tear/decoration/repairs/mortgage interest).

If you don't speak to an accountant at least speak to the Inland Revenue, they are actually exceptionally helful when it comes to this. If you are going overseas you may get away with no tax payable anyway.
