Any payroll/accounts people?? Help needed please!
Morning All
Im not due for a while yet but am thinking ahead and although I do have to come back to work (and kind of want to also) I want to know if I can afford to drop one or maybe two days.
Before I approach my employer about this I need to do my sums which is where I need help, I currently earn £18500 pa and come out with apx £1214 per month, what I would like to know is how much I would come home with if I dropped to 4 days and the same for 3 days.
If any of you guys could help me it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

working on the assumption that you are going to be taxed the same and that will work the same hours per day and working it on roughly a day basis rather than hour basis, you would drop to approx £960 take home on 4 days and £721 on 3 days. Dont forget though that you would lose holidays etc and could gain tax credits. Its a bloody mine field to be honest!!! Oh and dont forget your NI contributions would change too.
Please do not take this as any form of financial advice and dizzybird cannot be held liable for any alcoholic ramblings

Hi
Dont forget that any staff benefits that form your salary package might also reduce. It may also be worth checking if it impacts your company pension and or/life assurance should you receive them.
I know some mums who are better off financially for cutting to two days as the tax credits have increased.

Hi there both
Thanks for the replies, staff - benefits what are they lol?
At least I have some kind of idea now so when the time comes I know I can afford to approach my employer about it?
I find the whole working tax credits confusing, from what I can see off the website we would get about £143 a month, does this sound right? Hubby earns apx £27500 pa and I earn £18500 pa. The amount does not change if I do 5,4 or 3 days a week.
Cheers again.

hello,
I have been reading the boards for a while and lurking!! any way thought this would be useful to you, this calculator works out you tax, NI and final take home pay, all you need to do is input your hourly wage or you can do it from you yearly salary, i've found it very helpful when trying to figure out what my monthly pay will be etc!!!
