No advice but I have a question. How do you keep them away from those damn gambling machines when you go out?!! I hate them but my OH can't seem to walk into a pub or anywhere else where they are without having a go, Leaving me sitting there on my own like a twat!! He doesn't put much in them and seems to always come away better off but I still hate them!!

you don't! They are grown-ups who make their own choices! You can't stop them gambling, if they want to do it they will. Be it at the bookies,in the pub or online. Unless they want to stop, you are fighting a losing battle. Sorry!

    Re: gambling

A gambling addiction is obviously a serious matter - for the professionals, but an irritating habit of going on the bandits in bars might be damped down by pointing out that those things run on a computer program - they are programmed to pay out RANDOMLY - so it won't necessarily pay out to you if the last bloke on it lost - and to pay out 85% of what's put in - so the longer you play the more you WILL lose...

Tax on idiots, folks, tax on idiots.

Edited to add: If you want help/advice relating to gambling addictions Kel, you can contact NECA - North East Council For Addictions - on http://www.neca.co.uk or 0191 298 3544. They have local offices so go on the website to find the one nearest you.

I had to get in touch with them some years ago re: an ex's problem and they were very helpful

You can contact gamblers anonymous if you are concerned about someone - it isnt just for the gamblers (same with other helplines).

I found online poker the worst, the easiest way to loose your money, just keep typing in your card details - losing battle.

Also at casinos when they have tournaments with big cash prizes, doesnt help wither if your OH is convinced he is an amazing player.

Biggie is right in a sense, they need something smacked into their face to stop, that thing may not be the same thing that you think will 'cure' them.

It is extremely hard having someone you love addicted to something that can easiliy destroy things. Boredom was a huge factor with us.

Agree 100% you can be there to help them but only they can stop.

I totally agree! My post was more of a moan than an asking for advice. I just hate those damn machines

    Re: gambling

I had no idea when i got with the OH that he was a into gambling. Found out when from the half none existant father that he was, after not receiving a christmas present!!

Had a huge row, he promised to get help, the ARMY promised to help and we are still waiting.

Ended up in £1400.00 worth of debt which i had to dig myself out off. Still waiting for him to get help, last mount £583 punds went missing from his wages, cue huge row then found out the ARMY had taken it off him for no reason, so now waiting two months for it back.

Thank god, for all the HELP!!

Sorry for ranting, its a sore subject for us x
