Thread: Internet access problems

Sons friend has a new Mac Air and she is having problems getting online so cant skype etc.
Also Cyrus does not seem to do dongles (or perhaps they dont have suotable USB dongles ?)

Has anyone any solutions?

I've said there must be somethng in the settings, nothing to do with the computer or the OS.

Is there anywhere they can go to get things sorted, are there any Computers fix it and mend it places? They are in DK and in Nightingale barracks.

Is she using a wireless or wired internet access?

Or is it that there isn't any suitable internet access (hence the comment re dongles?) Just wasn't quite sure.

Me as well. I think possibly the later, no internet access.

I've found the Apple support page and sent him the link so they can sort it out themselves if possible.
We had a phone call this morning asking us to send over sons netbook which we have refused to do, cost and likelihood of damage and anyway this friend should sort herself out.
Son himself has very little internet access, only managed to skype but has enough internet to buy things from amazon and ebay even if he cant keep in touch with us

I don't know about Nightingale Bks, but our lot in the other bks on site have wifi within the block. Plus Cessac, The Hive and I think Ssafa have free wifi too. Not seen any dongles here, but haven't really looked. Now I've had a quick google though, I found this:

Does anyone know if there is an Apple shop in Cyprus, ideally Larnaka? Larnaca airport maybe?

Just had a long fraught conversation with son Told him that she needs to ring the Apple helpline or get herself to an Apple shop to download whatever updates are needed. Son himself does not have internat either and he is not on a Mac

Nightingale have wi fi at the officers block but not elsewhere so other ranks tend to hang various wires out of windows in the hope of getting online. I did manage to skype son just before Christmas when he set up his laptop in the corridor outside his room but not been able to it since then. It rings my side and it rings his side but we cant get connected.
I've said to him to take his laptop to a library, must be one or there must be places they can wi fi ...
Mind you having said that he does manage to buy things from Amazon and go on facebook but he still says he cant get online - I dont think he classes those as being online

I don't know about the library, only the other places I have suggested already. Skype is notoriously bad in Cyprus. Even more so when the weather is bad.

According to the Apple website there is not a store in Cyprus.

I really think you need to get him to sort these problems out, otherwise he is going to drive you barmy for however long he is here for. Anyone will point him in the right direction.

As an aside there is a place called Computer Central down the road who might be able to help.
