    Op tosca?

My OH is being sent to Cyprus for 2 months on OP TOSCA. He's a regular in the RLC.

Just wondering what OP TOSCA is like? he's going on Saturday and its going to be the first time he's been away since he passed out last July.

Kind of worried because ive been used to having him around more regularly (I'm at uni and he visits every weekend). And suddenly he's being sent away.

Does anyone have any experience with OP TOSCA? Most deployments mentioned on here are afghanistan.

i don't mean to sound harsh but 'Welcome to the British Army'! He'll be away more than he's here, so start planning girly nights out with your friends and whatever you do, don't neglect your mates.

I dream of Mr D going on Op Tosca- I think I would head over to hang out with Gonzo and spend the entire time sipping cocktails

I am sure you will cope just fine, just keep busy and have a good time whilst he is away

Mr B is supposed to be doing a 6 month TOSCA at some point. His words "bloody hell, I'd rather be in Afghanistan!". On the up side, I suppose it won't be another Christmas separated because I'll ship the family out to him if he can't come to me. I likey that sort of tour!

Just keep busy and you'll be fine. It's a more civilised first tour for him than it could be!

Op Tosca is UN tour, normally 6 mths. Depending on rank it can be mad busy or a total holiday.
My hubby did it for 6mths in 2005 and me and the cherubs went out for the summer holidays.

Two months is no time atall, enjoy the peace!

I'd say it's a nice introduction to the Military life, I'm actually getting excited as I'm almost at the 2 month point before the OH returns and that seems like no time at all.

Write/e-mail/telephone/have a life Basically keep communication going and keep yourself busy and the time will fly

Thanks a lot for all your comments I know 2 months is nothing compared to what it could be or what its going to be in future. I think its just the fact its the first time he's going away that I'm feeling nervous.
Its going to be good practice for afghanistan

And I'd LOVEEEE to go out to cyprus! that would be amazing. Shame hes not going in summer when I have time off from uni.

I'd say every time there's a deployment you are going to get mixed feelings, 2 months or 7 months... it's time away that "normal" people, what ever that is, don't get.

But when I went away for work for 2 months, it seemed to the OH that he'd just got used to me being away, before I was on my way back, which is why I know at 2 months to go, with plenty of things to get done before he comes back, that it will be gone in a flash.

It does allow you to get into the habit of communicating over a distance, without it seeming like a lifetime

it's a piece of p*ss, basically they sit about and do sod all. Depending on where they are situated, depends on their restrictions but it is lit just a holiday, even better when they get a 1-2 week paid jolly to some where like paphos (got a lovely stay in the great alexndra hotel).

I personally do not like Cyprus deployments of any length. Contact is good yes and of course that's a blessing but mr tree spends a fortune on nights out and waterparks and god knows what else. Always seems to me that he's in Cyprus having an all expenses paid holiday while I'm stuck home with two kids driving me crazy. Every time he deploys to Cyprus you can guarantee that's when we'll have most disagreements.

But if I didn't have kids or pets to worry about I think I'd love it. Yes I'd miss him but plenty of contact, not a lot of danger (though nights out in Cyprus are a bit hit and miss the locals aren't all the biggest fans of squaddies.) and absolutely no guilt whatsoever if I go out and get trollied with my girls!

The locals don't dislike squaddies that much. In some areas squaddies are their bread and butter.

Agia Napa is OOB still, and Protaras is OOB now too, for we don't know how long.

S_T is right about the cost though. I think the cypriots have a radar for an english accent and give you a different price (more expensive) than their own if you don't know where to go.

Water Parks won't open until April ish. Protaras is now back in bounds so he could go there for a bevvy when off of nights.
