Lisa aka The Wife!
recently came back from there, what you wanna knnow about the place?
men love em or hate em!!
I lived there for a bit too, not in quarters though but know the place quite well!
They said it could'nt be done, so I did'nt do it
The chippy (Cessac)on the front is very very nice. :thumbleft:
Mimi: "I'm a fat f*ck. I'm a f*cking fat f*cker".
Ohhhhh I love chips. I've heard theres an indian too...is that any good? do they deliver? My house is on Ypres Lane, how long will it take me to walk to, pub, beach, shop, school, pub, chippy, pub, hubby to work, and finally the pub. What time does the pub open? Is there good clothes shops locally? I can't wait!

The best place for clothes is Larnaca (about 15/20 mins away), there is even an M & S there! Or go up to Nicosia there is a debenhams there and alsorts!
We used to get a lift the 'strip' for drinkies and get a taxi back, sometimes Id make it back to my room without being too ill, sometimes I would not..........
Cant remember much else about being there, it's a 6 month blur -sorry!
(the chippy is excellent, I can remeber that!)

ACTUALLY, the best place for clothes shopping is Nicosia, they opened up a shopping mall last year. Has a good few clothing shops that you'd get in the UK. Plus their high street is ok, for Cyprus.Originally Posted by Susiesoo

Got a crab mate who's on some tiny base between dhekelia and ayia napa, think I should give him a bell, see if his misses will get on here.

the indian is called masala's, it's where jordan and peter go. it's well nice.
ypres lane - not nice, but it's cheap rent. you are on bottled gas for your heating and water, they do have solar panels but not sure if they work, and they are a bit small, not as such a garden but more of a desert stlye ruffage. shops in larnaca are ok, they have Next, Debenhams, Mango Mac D's Pizza hut, but most are tacky tourist shops. i would not use the hair dressers on camp, she's a bit of a savage.
Dps is the primary school, not that great but you got no other choice 10 min walk, KRS is the secondry school.
the garrison pool is good, no locals in there.
pub on camp called the Lions den, and it is a den, used to have bingo on a monday night i think.
anything else you wanna know.
They have a decent night club on palm tree parade, that is the main road that runs along the sea front, with all the cafes. The club is called 'The Times', it's ok. Not much clubbing scene in Larnaca to be honest.
Most properties are 'solar' powered for the hotwater, they do work during the summer, very well but winter, not so well. You'll need to use the therma heating, this costs a lot of money. The majority of place are gas run for the heating and the ovens, the gas bottles are about £5 cyp to buy, not sure on what the conversion to EUR is, maybe 8 EUR?
Newer places are run on Petrol or Electricity but this is very expensive.
If you want to get a phone line/internet line via the phone i.e. multi choice. You will need to put down £100 cyp deposit, as you are not a Cypriot, same goes for electricity, which I think is a £!0 dep and water, which is a £20 dep.
Orokilini is right next door to dehelia town, it's cheaper to rent there xx

oh and you get invaded by ants during the summer, so dont leave ANYTHING out in the kitchen. Xylophagou is next door to Dhekelia camp, good butchers shop there for summer bbq's and also a bakery. the car tax place (co-op) is there too. the topgate guard room is where you used to get your id card and just outside used to be the best place to get a sandwich.
takeaway deliveries are usually delivered to the bottom gate but the local pizza shop in the mentioned village delivers to your door.
they have a golf club, if thats your thing and also stables and horsey stuff.
footy comp for the kids in the summer and the dhekelia dash (1 mile charity fun run) on the sports field. the chippy is nice but is usually packed with the locals on a weekend, same as the beach.

Hi,
I'm moving with my soon-to-be hubby in October for 2 years, as he will be back and forth to afghanistan, and wandered what the military housing is like? Obviously, we dont get to see the house/villa/apartment or whatever until we are actually sent there.
Anyone been there and lived there, can anyone give me any details of somewhere, road names etc that i can type into google earth? i'm curious, and very excited!!
My Fiance is a Lance Corporal.. so still fairly new to the forces, which i know can affect the standards of the housing.
Any comments would be much appreciated.
Is anyone else there right now?! x
I'm flying over Monday week to start life there for a few years. As soon as I get internet I'll try and help - providing the box with the laptop in doesn't go missing!!!!
