    The ReaRough Guide to Cyprus

    With apologies to

Hoping we can start our own version of Rough Guides hear on Rear so, starters for ten:

Where is safe for Brits? Where isn't?

Is there a Cypriot equivalent of the French gites, i.e. where are the cheapest places to stay for tourers?

How do you do Cyprus on the cheap?

Cyprus on the cheap?? Campa van lol

No, stay away from the ‘popular’ hotels, B&B’s maybe a bit hard to find but you can get hold of some decent ones. Try the travel agents rather than online.

Flights, cheaper to book from outside Cyprus (obv). BA, tend to do some good flights and Cyprus airways but depends on where you’re flying into. Larnaka will be the main port of call unless your going down south, then it will be Paphos.

Most places are safe for Brits, crime isn't a high order over here. But watch out if you’re on your own. If you’re female, common sense says not to walk alone.

Cypriot men tend to approach without any will and can be very pushy, more mouth that action these lot. Tell the out right to f off!

Hmm I have found that when I speak English (and mine is pretty good - accentless (such a word?)) things generally cost me double and on some occasions triple... I know this because I have blatantly heard the shop assistants tell the other to charge me double because a) I look arabic and therefore have a lot of money or b) Sound English and therefore have a lot of money ...

Either way, I actually have to challenge them in Greek before I pay a normal price ...

I suppose what I am trying to say is, try to only buy from places where the price is already marked ... otherwise be careful, they really will try to rip you off.

Oh and if you've a mind too, haggle with them ... they like it :-)
You laugh at me because I am different, I laugh at you because you are all the same.

If you've got a chance of nipping up to North Cyprus then over the summer months (from begining of June till mid august) you can go Turtle watching at Alagadi beach - just east of Girne/Kirenia. It is awesome to see the turtles coming up out of the sea to lay their eggs at night (although this isnt garanteed!!) and later on, from end of july, you can see nests being excavated and you can see the gorgeous baby turtles (which look a little like wind up toys!) making their way down the beach to the sea!

    I well recomend it!

    [marq=left]NEWS FLASH!!![/marq]

Ayia Napa seems to be fully booked at the moment, however, there is a high rise with tourists,

This is never really a problem, however, we did witness 2 different muggings on the beach, so take care will you.

Also, this year seems to be getting hotter during the day, so make sure you have the correct protection.

Nissi beach during peak season seems to be filthy, looks like tourists do not know how to use a bin! Fig tree bay is a lovely beach, down from Protaras.
