  • Tiny Sunbirds Far Away by Christie Watson

This is the story of a young girl who is abandoned by her father and then forced to move with her family from the city back to her grandfather's village.

Sounds a tad dull, but the story is based in Africa! The family are forced to move from Lagos to a poor country village which is torn apart by gangs and fighting. It tells the story of Blessing, her mother and brother in Blessing's words.

A very interesting read to be fair and very descriptive of places and the struggles which the family faced when they were abandoned.

The book was easy to read and a perfect way to spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon (it took me a while longer to read, than an afternoon - i'll blame work!).

The author has done a great job of getting into the mind of a child and describes things how I imagine Blessing would have seen them.

I rate it 4 wine glasses (and only because its not my usual type of read)

    Sluice x
