    Health visitors/doctors

Hi, ive just moved to be with my hubby in marriage quarters. Not sure how everything works to be honest. Do i have to find my own health visitor and doctors or can i go through the welfare office with the army? As i havent yet been to see the army welfare officer, im lost in what to do x

some Armycamp might actually have a health clinic set up, once a fortnight or so.
go to your welfare office and ask them.
Doctors and dentist , you will have to have a lok yourself, unless you are abroad.
Welfare sould be able to give you a list tho,.
is there nothing like a welcomepack???

Also try your local Hive there great for information.
If your aboard everything is provided on the camp.
Treat others like you want to be treated, because remember .. what goes around comes around!

In your welcome pack you should get an envelope full of ridiculous amounts of info. In one of them is a local community guide. That usually has the nearest doctors and their phone numbers (and dentists and schools etc). I'm pretty sure as soon as you register your little one with the doctor they contact the health visitor for you and they weill then get in touch with you. As Padders said some of the patches have a weekly weigh in or something like it where you can go and meet the health workers and take any concerns to.

That only applies to UK postings. I've not got a clue on the foreign ones.

I haven't had a welcome pack... who gives you this. My OH was going to sort it out with the welfare office but he's away on exercise. When i go to the barracks will they let me in without a pass or do i just quote his rank number. i've just moved to Hounslow London!

    Hey,

It depends completely on where you live as to what arrangements are made.

Many of the places we have lived have had doctors on camp, but dentists are only available for families when abroad.

Go on to t'internet. Google [Placename] HIVE. This will give you the phone number for your local Hive. Ring them. They will give you loads of information on what needs to be done etc. (In this posting they (the Hive) were only able to tell me there wasn't a dr on camp (Hive officer was new in post) so I then put google maps over my general area and typed in Dr, I then found the geographically nearest surgury, rang them up and they were able to confirm that I was in their catchment area and just needed to pop in and fill out some forms)

For Dentists, go back to Google, put in the name of your local town and NHS Dentists. Get a few numbers and start ringing round to see who has places and covers your area.

Health Visitor-wise - in my experience they don't have Health Visitors in the UK! In Germany the Health visitor is a constant presence until your little one goes to school. In the UK I have left a mirriad of messages for her and she has never once got back to me. If you are desperate to see one: Google, [your town name] Children's Centre. Give them a ring and find out if they have a Health Visitor drop-in and weigh clinic - this is your best chance of getting hold of one of them, you can always try and get an apppointment out of them in person once you have got them face-to-face and they can't escape!

Oh and don't worry about seeing the Army Welfare Officer - in my experience they are pretty useless unless it comes to bringing out the big guns, you can get far more information from your Hive, and Families Officer (if you have one).

    Good luck!

So far today I've done alright. I haven't gossiped, I haven't lost my temper, I haven't been greedy, grumpy or very indulgent. But in a few minutes, I'm going to get out of bed, and from then on, I'm going to need a lot more help.

Do they still issue welcome packs? Not had one since 1993 when we moved back to England.

We got one when we moved into this place in 2010. I don't know if we just got lucky though.

This page seems to have some useful bits and pieces:

Think the mention of the 'Chunchilla Centre' in 'Healthcare' should read 'Chinchilla Centre'.

Doctor / GP - Chinchilla Centre for Health - Welcome

You're covered by the HIVE in Windsor - give them a call on 01753 832285 in the morning, I'm sure they will help you.
