    ASD & interupted sleep

Mini Jo started in his new SEN School, this September and things are going well. He's picking up a few makaton signs and understandings etc. But home life is still unsettled, he's waking at 3am, bouncing/screeting and generally hyper for 3hrs. Unfortunately, this is effecting my neighbour now, aswell as me and the baby

Mini Jo attends 20hrs a week, half days, except for Wed, which is a full day. I've tried to make things as calm as possible in his bedroom (heavy duty black out blinds, paid for new double glazing extra thick stuff, just for his bedroom, removed toys, calming colours etc) but he is still bouncing off the walls.

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep he calmer? At my wits end with sleep deprivation today

Have you spoken to the school about it? If it's a SEN school then it may be a problem they have come across before so they might have some tips or be able to put you onto someone who can help. Apart from that, I can't really think of anything :/ I hope you get it sorted though - sleep deprivation is a nightmare x

I know vit B is supposed to be good for concentration/memory stuff so maybe it would help with the hyperactivity?

I have a friend on facebook whose daughter has SEN and has problems with hyperactivity. I will message her and see if she had any problems with sleeping. I'm sure she did and I know now she would put a sloth to shame so she might have some tips x

I am a huge, huge fan of cranial osteopathy, it is totally amazing and for my son the results were staggering after six sessions.

Found this link for you which may give you more information (apologies if you have already seen or tried this)

Sorry, forgot to say that this centre is actually in the USA but it was the only link with so much information, there should be a clinic near you though...

Also - may sound a bit airy fairy - but meditation music (even hypnotherapy stuff) as they fall to sleep can help as well. Black out curtains do aid with falling asleep yes - but a tube with some lights in it (check out the multi sensory room they may have in the SEN school) and movement may help with the relaxation to sleep.
