    Extremely Proud Mum

Hi, just thought I would share this. After much thought and deliberation my 7 year old daughter started Boarding on Sunday evening (at the same school as her older brother). I thought she was too young, my husband has the view of 'why deprive her of a stable education if she is able to have it' and in the end after much pleading from her and insistence that she wasn't too young and that she would be fine I gave in. The main factor being that she was having to change schools again anyway and would have to do so again in a years time. Well she started Sunday and we drove back to an empty house feeling a bit forlorn - we had to hunt her down for a goodbye cuddle as she was quite content to just wave out of the window (I'm not an evil mum they can't wait to get away from, honest!!). Well there was no tearful phone call on the Sunday night, and all we got Monday was a text from our 10 year old saying 'night'. Then last night they finally called, she was first on the phone sounding as happy as anything and informing us that she had been put in the A sets for Maths and English, she loved her new school, loved the dogs, loved all the children, loved her teacher and oh, she missed us a bit but would see us on Friday'. I am just so proud of her and the way she has coped with it all, long may it last!

Both mine went yesterday and it's pretty much broken my heart. The youngest is 9 so the thought of another 9 years or so right now is too much to really contemplate.

Lucky you for being able to see them on Friday. Do your children weekly board? We can't speak to the kids until Saturday at the earliest (mobile phones strictly forbidden) and it's an 'in' weekend this week so even if we were in a position to go and visit them this weekend we wouldn't be able to. Boo hoo. And it's the eldest sprog's birthday this weekend. Double boo hoo.

I know, I felt the same driving away from my two and the house is just so quiet. Mine are full boarders but at the moment we live about 25 minutes away from the school so we pick them up Friday nights for the weekend. My son has a mobile, it says in the rules that they are not supposed to have them but the school are fine about it as long as he doesn't use it after lights out or during school hours. They also both have a pin number so they can phone home whenever they want to. Birthdays are a hard one when you can't get to them, at the moment we are lucky as they are nearby and the school are happy for us to drop in and take them out to dinner then drop them back later.

I got a text message from son2 "send houseparent an email to say paintballing is ok"

No doubt I'll hear from the other two when they want something.

    Enjoy the peace

I can enjoy the peace a bit better now. Both kids' house-parent thingies have rung to say they're absolutely fine. Sigh of relief at this end!

The only consolation is that they seem to get on a damn sight better both being away at school then they do at home!!! or maybe I just don't have to witness the constant arguing so I can tell myself that this is the case!! I love it when my son phones and says things like 'do you know where my trackie bottoms are', how the hell would I know? I don't live at the school!!!!!!!! he seems to think that as I'm mum I know where everything is, regardless of the fact that it's not even where I live!
