supplements - advice needed
Can anyone recommend any supplements I should be taking while trying to conceive?
I just found out that I shouldn’t be taking my multivitamins and oils as they contain Vitamin A.
Am I supposed to be taking folic acid – or is just if you have a low iron count?

Hi , I read on a multivitimins packet that you shouldnt take them while trying to concieve. I took folic acid straight away and you can take what I think are called pregnicare tablets. hope this helps x

Pregnacare is probably your best bet. You can get it 3 for 2 at Holland and Barretts.
If you don't want a multivit, then at least make sure you have your folic acid. xx

I echo what the others say, start taking folic acid, dont worry about a supplement if you are getting a well balanced diet, I take a multivitamin for after giving birth as I am breastfeeding and my little lad sucks the life out of me!!

If you have a balanced diet and get lots of fresh veg and fruit a multivit isn't necessary. Pregnacare is horribly expensive. Any chemist will have folic acid tablets which are really cheap and all you need

agreeing with the others regarding the folic acid...definitely a must!
Vitamin D is also recommended (especially in Northern Europe during winter) as most people don't get enough of it anyway. It is a MUST if you are of native-african descent (I don't make assumptions). It is also one of the vitamins that is virtually impossible to overdose on. (it'll improve your hair, skin and nails....a plus in any girl's book).
Using a pregnancy multi-vitamin that contains folic acid and vit. D during winter can't do any harm, especially as people tend to eat less fruit and fewer "greens" during the winter months. There are many variants (Pregnacare, SevenSeas Femibion, Sanatogen Mother to be, supermarket own brand) on the market...see what your local supermarket has in the vitamins section.

everyone - a very big thank you - I did look at pregnicare etc - but thought it was tad expensive (looking for holland and barrett now) and couldn't see any supermarket brands - so just bought cheap and cheerful folic! was thinking of asking the doctors if they sold any in the pharmacy. I'm great with the fruit and veg - but have started uping my calcium levels !!
fingers crossed!!!
