That is one adorable baby with one adorable hair cut! Your making a "I don't want kids" 17 year old want a bubby!
On an off topic note, what IS R&R? I'm afraid I don't actually know but I've seen a lot of people mentioning it >.<

R&R - rest and recouperation - basically some time off during their deployment to recharge batteries etc at home.

Just for info though, Sailors, and I guess Submariners too, don't get R&R at home, instead they will generally go to a port for a few weeks so that everyone gets some time off at that point.
So unlike the Army partners on here, if we want to see them, we have to hope its a friendly port and go to see them...at our cost (while hoping plans don't change, so make sure you get travel insurance that will cover the cancellation if you do)
Nothing to see here, move on by....
Who told you about the RN and R&R abroad? Because thast is a load of bull, no offence.
Yes, when a ship comes along side, they get to go out and let their hair down but that is normal and they still have to work during the day, unless their boss is decent and lets them take a make-a-mend.
But R&R leave, they come home like every one else does
Could crop circles be the work of a cereal killer?
Mr GS won't get R&R when he's away for 10-12 months. The lads get rotated through but Mr GS and the more senior crew will not. If I want to see him then I will have to fly to the port at our expense, flight booked last minute with fingers crossed that the program doesn't change. Certainly for submariners that's standard. Look at HMS Trafalgar (I think, one of the T boats anyway) as an example as to how long the wardroom are away from home.
Silk has a stronger tensile strength than steel but is not rigid.
V boats are away for only 3 or so months so no, no R&R for a V boats and you don't need one for patrol of that length it's no time at all.

or if you are down for duties i.e summer duties, the MOD will fly said member home for that period or say 3 weeks before ship is due home

Um, that's based on facts, not bull.
My OH is on a 6.5 month deployment currently, they don't come home for R&R, they have a scheduled stop of more than a day or 2, part way through, to give people some time off locally only.

Back on topic, really cute baby picture![]()

That's not R&R, that's just a general stop.
