Thread: Best places!

Right, got to get this forum up and moving!

So to start off, lets share those good and bad places you have been drafted/worked/on holiday or even been on exercise to.

For me the worst place has to be Kuwait, place is dry as an airing cupboard! No booze and the night life grrrr don't get me started. How ever, the Americans were very accomodating and helpful in replacing what there wasn't :wink:

And the good places........well I'd say Souda bay, Malta and Gib for a rum ashore!

Only countries I have lived in are the UK and Cyprus so I am not so clued up on the long term!

Bumping this up as it could be useful to hear!

Any weird and wonderful posting places anyone's been to?

Am boring and only ever been to one posting (and still there 6 years later) with OH ... and it's in the UK. However, on my hollies have been to a fair few places. Have to say loved Canada the most but Kefalonia comes a close second. Off to Norweigan lapland dog sledding at Christmas so, if I survive will let you know!!

Now bring on those postings so I can get jealous!!!!!

Can't say for postings but would recommend (for a holiday) Vietnam. Just fantastic!

There used to be a program on Sky One about 15 years ago called China Beach. It was a boy's thingy, with lots of guns and blood and shooting and Vietnam War stuff - but the scenery was incredible and that's definitely a place I'd like to visit too!

Cambodia was an awesome posting. It was a UN gig.

The Sinai and Golan Heights were also awesome postings.

Dubai rocks, Israel is amazing, Rome was an artist's dream posting. Loved Germany, adored the UK, had a fab time in Oz, fell in love with NZ, had a blast in Spain, Gib, Malta, Sicily. Didn't want to leave Norway or Sweden, loved Holland and Belgium and was fascinated by Cape Town, had a great time in San Diego, Seattle and Hawaii.

I hated, Rwanda, Somalia, The Congo and The Sudan.

I had a hard time in Washington DC with the yank left and right wingers. Warsaw was a bit iffy, as was Moscow.

Domestically, loved Halifax, Ottawa, Edmonton, Toronto, Quebec City, Whitehorse, Comox, Victoria, Kingston and Wainwright. I hate Trenton - passionately.

Yeah, you're right TO.. Trenton at least, has a daily airshow and I do love the C17s.

Moscow was fab! But then, I was there a while ago and had a fabby time... I hear it's not as good any more (scarymary)

I preferred St Petersburgh and Kronstadt over Moscow. Moscow just seemed dirty and tired. Our embassy there is a little on the tired side too, everything is dingy and the staffers are all pining for the good old cold war days.

I fell in love with Lomonosov China while I was in St Pete, brought a truckload of it home.
