    Nepal

I've just married into the Army life so a bit new to what's/where's/how's and everything in general really! :?

My husband has just casually dropped a comment(!) about a Nepal posting. Does anyone know the situation with taking the family dog out (and back again!)...

    Thanx in advance!

I've tried searching out the HIVE link for you but for some strange reason I can't find the one for Nepal. It must be there somewhere though. Get in touch with the HIVE main number and they'll point you in the right direction.

I doubt there'd be a problem with taking your dog over there, the problem will be getting him back. I would imagine he'd have to go into quarantine on the way back because I doubt there's an agreement between UK and Nepal. I could be way off the mark though. If you do take him then I'd make sure he's rabies jabbed up to the hilt and just check out the vet facilities etc whilst you're out there.

All that said, you'd better check with the local housing officer to make sure that dogs are allowed. It's also going to cost a small fortune to fly him in and out, but you'll expect that I should think.

Cheers - he's got his Pet Passport so all rabies jabs are up to date - thanx for the tip with HIVE, will give them a call... He's a bit of a big brute so expecting a huge hit with Air Fares - OUCH - but would not feel happy about leaving him behind...

    Wish me luck!

There is no HIVE in Nepal at the mo, best bet is to contact head office or wait till I ask one of the ladies here tomorrow (we have a Gurkha Sqn here).

They said it could'nt be done, so I did'nt do it

The Army will pay for 1 dog to be transported on any posting. If you had 2, they'd pay for 1 and not the other Unless it's specifically put on the posting order that it's not allowed, then it is.

It all depends on liability for personal effects - ask your Hubby to check it out

Am in a rush but I could find you the info on it but I'm sure someone will know the regs...

Beware of that one. They may do for some postings, but not all, even if dogs are allowed. I have first hand experience of it!!

I know, Bodger, it's a pain it doesn't apply to all - but the posting order will say if they don't (rather than they do) If it isn't stated, then it's a given that they *should*

Wow! This is becoming a bit of a minefield! I didn't realise that dog ownership could be so complicated...

Really appreciate all your help with this. The DEFRA site is complicated - several calls to the Helpline required!!!!!
