Welfare help needed (sorry if wrong place)

Ok called Welfare, but they are on a recce at the moment so I can't get a straight answer yet. If someone can give me some advice, great, if not I can suck it up until they get back.

Young Gonzo needs an operation (non life threatening). Said operation will take place in Selly Oak due to our current location assuming the consultant see's fit to push it through instead of making Young Gonzo wait until our return to UK. No family for either hubby or I near Selly Oak at all. SMO says no welfare accomodation at all. What I want to know is:

    1. Is there really no welfare accomodation given Young Gonzo could be in hospital for up to 3 weeks?

    2. If no welfare accomodation is there anywhere for me to stay in the hospital?

    3. If no to both the above is there any chance of requesting a hospital nearer family?

    4. If said operation is within 2/3 months of our posting is there any mileage in asking welfare to arrange to bring our posting forward bearing in mind I know that houses are available now.

Cheers all. Never been in this situ before so bit stressed.

By the way I don't mean to sound ungrateful for no welfare accomodation, I am just trying to get my head around the best option for us.

Thanks Pixie. Young Gonzo will be ok, I just hate seeing them like this and feeling totally helpless because we're over here.

I don't know how Selly Oak hospital works, but I know some hospitals have parent accommodation, doubt it is great, but it may be worth calling the hospital?

Have you tried SSAFA? There may be a branch near Selly Oak that may be able to help point you in the right direction.

Thanks ladies. I will have a good chat with ssafa when I know exactly what is going on. Feeling out of control at the moment, and I don't like it

Gonzo I'd be yelling at your SMO/Welfare, they have fed you nothing but worry!
I'm sure SSAFA will put you right.

    Good luck x

There is a welfare house at Selly Oak, my auntie and grandparents stayed in it when my uncle was injured. He was in Sellyoak for 3 months, they stayed there for the 1st month full time, then every weekend after that.
SSAFA is the way to go. Good luck x

    Hi Gonzo,

What Heli said, give Karen Ross, AFF Health & Additional Needs Specialist a call/email Tel: 0755 286 1983 Email: additionalneeds@aff.org.uk. Although SSAFA will undoubtedly be able to help.

Thank you everyone. As soon as I have screamed at the consultant I shall scream at Welfare, or go down the Ssafa route. I really appreciate your support.
