Does your family fit the shape of a standard family ticket?

Kids in Museums has launched the Flexible Family Ticket campaign to help families of all shapes and sizes to feel welcome in museums and galleries across Britain. This campaign is to highlight and address the standard family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children which doesn’t reflect the reality and diversity of modern family life in Britain. This often leads to families being made to feel unwelcome when visiting museums and galleries, perhaps particularly upsetting if the mum or dad is away on tour of duty. They're kicking off the campaign with the Family Ticket Watch and they want you to tell them:

    • What has been your experience of a family ticket?
    • Did it fit your family?
    • What would you like a family ticket to be?

    Brilliant Idea!

I have four children and my partner has two, so a "family" ticket for two adults and two kids does not go anywhere near  Usual entrance price for us at a zoo, theme park or venue is usually about £60 quid. The half-price vouchers from Walkers Crisps have saved my sanity over the last few years.

I dont understand why if you are paying for a family ticket at these venues why the additional children are not charged at nominal rate of £1 or so. After all, most venues make money on what you spend inside on food, drinks, merchandise etc., This means that its very easy to spot the family with more than two kids in this country. They will be ones eating their packed lunch in the car park before they go in, and having the BBQ
in the carpark at the end of the day - or is that just us ops:

Two years ago, we joined English Heritage for just £80 a year we have free access to thousands of venues. Perfect example of this is jaw-dropping Dover Castle, cost us nothing but the family in front of us (two adults three children) paid almost £50. OH and I have a card each and we can both take in up to six children each free. Its brilliant, something to see, the castles always havehills to roll down and the facilities are always spotlessly clean. Thoroughly recommended.

Sort of, Hubby has 1 son who lives with his Mum in UK. I have 1 son who lives with us in Germany and in 3 weeks we should have a daughter (if they have it right) between us.

my husband took his children to the zoo - and because he was effectively there without his ex wife or me - they wouldn't allow him a family ticket - he had to pay seperately for each - expensive day out - he never chased it up and by the time i found out to late to write a letter of complaint!
with so many kids - i find if we takle them out its so expensive as a family is usually 2 adults and 2 children - the additional 1 or 2 etc would be a great idea

Great feedback, it's just the kind of thing 'Kids in Museums' is looking for, hopefully you've gone to their website and given them your thoughts.

Just a thought, I know that the current campaign is looking at "museums", but I wonder whether in time "attractions" may follow the lead.

I visited the Spinnaker Tower in Portmsouth today and noted a family ticket with similar restrictions.

slightly off topic but if anyones under 26 take a look at

    http://www.anightlessordinary.org.uk/about/

they have lists of shows around the country that offer free tickets for under
    26s,

is everyone using the forces discount site ? some places have as much as 75% off for military, (London bridge experience)

I have the same complaint. Just because hubby dearest is otherwise engaged I'm suddenly a non-family (and obviously have bucket loads of spare cash - not!). I've never been one to get upset and sorry for myself whilst I'm a temporary single parent, but that just about did the job!! And I let the familyticketwatch folks know about it.
