We got offered our MQ today - Cole Avenue in Salmanca Park - OH seems to be quite pleased with it but as for me l know nothing lm still a bit nervous and apprehensive about moving (and excited too mind)

But we are over in mainland this weekend so intend to go to Aldershot and have a nosy!

I guess its extremely bad taste and a tad rude to knock on the door and say "excuse me love mind if l take a look round your house cos we are moving in here in June??!!!!!"

You could always just knock on the door and ask them how they've found the quarter. If I were them I'd invite you in and let you have a scout around. You might even encourage me to open a bottle of something white and wet if it's after 6!

It would be after 3 and it is gonna be a Fri so surely that would excuse the early opening of the aforementioned white/wet??? Razz

Aldershot is an acquired taste for sure but lively and not too pricey considering where it is located in the south of england. If you have a car there is a fast train to waterloo in 35 minutes from Farnborough, plus Aldershot has regular trains to waterloo in less than an hour.

Michael Page (http://www.michaelpage.com) have an office in Weybridge and have jobs in that area. Reading is not too far away and in Farnborough there are loads of IT companies so there might be some project management jobs. You might not need to even commute into London town - although it is very easy to do.

Lots of lovely countryside nearby - its worth becoming a member of the national trust if you like nice walks. Loads of good national trust sites all around Hampshire and Surrey. Guildford is about 30 minutes away and has good shopping. Plus there is a mahoosive M&S in Camberley not that far away too.

Good luck with the move. We are being posted not a million miles away - surrounded by boxes as I type Rolling Eyes

It's michaelpage.co.uk not com

Great pubs for lunches in places called Church Crookham, Dogmersfield, Winchfield, Odiham and Crondall. Fleet has starbucks and thai food. Hartley Wintney is great for boutiques and posh living.

Winchester is 45 minutes away and is truly beautiful, Southampton is 45 minutes away (Ikea, West Quay Shopping Centre on the sea too)

Great photography opportunities so yes seize the moment. The weather is warmer and it doesn't rain as much as NI. Downside - the cost of living - be warned, it's expensive. Have fun - it'll be a great adventure and full of new learning experiences - don't judge a book by it's cover - Aldershot is known as a 'Aldershit' by some but its surrounded by loveliness so carpe diem. Very Happy

Visited Aldershot on Fri we were able to nosy through the windows of our new house as it was empty (OH banned me from taking photos not the done thing!!!), house seems ok carpets are manky with a lovely purple ish hue (makes a change from the green we have now LOL) but should get replaced or maybe we buy new rugs who cares! The kitchen is the same Royal Family kitchen as we have now LOL - who cares as long as its clean, and there's a lovely big garden that seems relatively private ish! The down stairs loo is the best feature of all!!!!

As for Aldershot well yeah there's a burger king and millions of bookies and its a bit grey! But we are close to Tesco and l found a huge Tesco Extra and Marks n Spencer and a Sainsburys and we are close to Legoland and apparently going to become regulars there so OH and step son have advised me!

Step son is going to a boarding school in area and it is fabulous (l wanna go there actually!) and they play lacrosse how very Enid Blyton!!

And lm now getting excited about moving and my nerves are starting to disappear kinda! Im looking forward to my first Gurkha curry!!

Thanks everyone for the advice -all l have to do now is find a job (which OH doesnt want me to rush off and do just cos he likes his dinner ready for of an evening - HA!)

Not a bad place to live, as in distance. You're not that far from Wokingham, which is an employable town, lots of shops, bars, council office, other offices etc or you could go towards basingstoke, depending if you drive or not. The train isn't that much of a journey it will take you to camberley and other places.

Good luck

p.s. Theale never changes, it's just 1 road with shops and pubs down Laughing
