Post Posted: Fri Jun 19, 2009 9:34 am

Hi all, my husband and myself have been looking into getting a posting to cyprus, he has 18months left to do but we are looking into an extension in cyprus. we own a house there and wish to settle there, so either way we will be living in cyprus. unfortunately his reg are not taking him seriously and we do not know where to go from here,

we have heard of several postings being turned down as people wish to settle in uk but we are the other way round

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hiya, your hubby will only get posted to Cyprus if there is a job there for him at the right rank and trade if he is in a corps. His unit should look at any trawl lists just incase there is anything going, there are a lot of jobs being down scaled in cyprus just now so there aren't as many about as there used to be. Your hubby needs to speak to his RCMO or Resettlement officer to see if either can help, probably the resettlement officer more so than the RCMO (they might even be the same person as like in this regiment).

If he is Infantry you will not be able to get posted to Cyprus unless his Regiment are going there as a whole as there are not really any individual infantry jobs out in Cyprus for infantry bods (apart from the odd PTI). The fact that he is in his last 18 months wont help either. But if he is Infantry he could try, and this is a complete long shot - that your hubby asks to spend his last 6 months in Cyprus with another Infantry unit. His own unit has to pay for him and the unit he goes to has to agree to do all this discharge and resettlement. It's worth a try but both units have to agree to terms. I know a few people that did this in the past but they went to a Regiment that were from the same division as themselves.

Good luck, we will prob never get a Cyprus posting cos there are only 2 of the jobs my hubby does out there and with another 85 peeps of the same trade I doubt we will get it!

Also keeping in mind that the UK forces are currently down sizing their occupancy within Cyprus in preparation to a permanent withdrawal. So unless your OH's job matches a posting that is in need for, I very much doubt he will be posted that way.

No harm in trying though.

You can get some on Armynet but you need the passwords for it, it is under E2 posts in careers section. The only way of finding out if there are postings is by speaking to APC Glasgow and they not keen on soldiers ringing them up (apart from APTC cos they get away with murder lol). Hubby will need to go through unit to get list. Maybe if he knows someone in RHQ in the admin side they might know someon in Glasgow who can help?
