Welcome G_B. I too am a wife, and was a child of as opposed to mother of (am sure that is yet to come though). There are plenty of parents on here that will be along to help you, but in the meantime if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Hello and welcome to RP.

It's horrible seeing all the repatriations, but from a wife's point of view I tend to put it to the back of my mind. I know it sounds cruel, no disrespect intended in any way shape or form, but it's the only way to keep sane whilst they're on tour. I just imagine husband-thing is just doing another day at work. I'll worry when he tells me to!

Hi, my son is in Germany, Celle, and will be deployed sometime soon. It is hard and you do worry. I try not to watch therepatriations. People say "don't you worry about him"? Well of course I do, it's my job as his mother. However I do try to rationalise it. The number of lads that we have lost is undoubtedly devastating and is far too many, however in ratio is to the number who have been on tour is fairly small. I don't mean that in a harsh way and in no way do I mean to be disrespectful. My son loves his job and the life the Army gives him, so I have to be happy for him. I have to support him. He will not need to be thinking about his old mum at home worrying. He will need to keep his eye on the ball. Any way, I'm happy to chat any time - PM me for contact details Very Happy

Hi GB

I am a mum. I was there last year being totally irrational, when the new came on another young soldier had been killed even tho I knew the news would not be released until next of kin were informed it didn't stop me quaking until I had either heard from my son or a name had been released.

I alsoo did my time while he was in the sandy place, Sleep not for 6 months, Being all upbeat when I did get to speak to him and crying when I put the phone down, the people in my office started giving me a wide berth I can tell you.

So if you need to chat go for it

Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Hi G B - you have come to the right place. We all have masses of experience with rusty shoulders (from being cried on), stiff shoulders (from all that responsibility), creaky elbow joints - from lifting all those glasses, and puffy eyes from all that sobbing. We also have sore ribs from laughing so much. RP is great, and will keep you sane, help with advice, get you drunk, and sober and generally be a really good friend. So welcome.

Hi all. I also have a son serving, although he's only in training at the moment. Good to see you all here, and I'm sure there's a wealth of advice and support when you need it most.
