| last week mr foxy, myself and a few wrinklies made our way to the local RAF training base to watch the youngest offsprings passing out parade. How proud were we to see our little girl on parade? Now she is 5' 5" and yet she looked so small amongst the adonis's either side of her. due to bad weather it was held in the hangar but nothing could dampen our spirits or our pride. and as i watched i looked back over the years and thought about the sweet little baby she was, the screaming brat of a 2 year old, the tantrums, moods, teenage strops etc that all healthy kids go through, and as the corporal screamed his orders at them a smile crept over my face as i thought of how she would have had to keep her mouth shut over the last nine weeks and what an effort that would have been. Now this passing out parade was the finishing touch to nearly 4 yrs of bloody hard work on her part and financial ruin on ours. She has spent 3 years at university doing her nursing degree with the aim of joining the RAF as a qualified nurse. Those 3 years have been filled with highs and lows closely followed by despair and drunken 'i cant do this anymore.....' phone calls thanks to the cheap booze of the student union. Like the good supportive parents we are we told her to stop whingeing and get on with it, and that she damn well will finish the course after the amount of money we had forked out up to that point. needless to say she did finish the course and went on to fulfil her intentions of joining the RAF. Nine weeks later and a few new arseholes that she had had ripped open for her by the training staff and here we are sitting in a hanger watching the fruits of all her hard work. was it worth the sleepless nights? stress, worry financial hardship and being used as a sounding board whenever anything went wrong? You damn well better believe it!!! There is nothing like seeing your childs dream come true, especially when they have worked so hard to get it and overcome so many obstacles. So i am sorry to bore you all rigid with my proud mum story but to all those out there with kids you will know just how i feel. I also have a son who has been in the army for 7 years who also had to overcome varous obstacles to get where he wanted to be, he is in afghan now and has been threatened by his sister that should he get hurt and end up on her ward to expect blunt needles and cold enemas, and should anything get blown off then she will insert the said body part in a certain orifice of his body to teach him not to get anything else blown off. thats what i like about my kids, such sensitive, caring souls thanks for sharing this with me foxy | ||
